can`t find tires

Does anyone make a 275/50/15 anymore? BFG, Good Year, Dunlop, everyone use to make it now I can`t find any unless I want a drag radial which I don`t. Guess I`m stuck with 60 series tires.

Re: can`t find tires

Classic Chevy trucks need some tire height & < 26" is pretty short. A 60 series tire will help fill the wheel well area nicely.

Re: can`t find tires

Cooper makes a 265/50/15 tire . Same basic tire as the old BFG 275/50/15 . Search Cooper Cobra .

Normaly I would agree but there is a member here running this size tire with pretty much the same lowering kit I have sitting on the bench and I love the way it sits. I may have to go to a 60 series though since finding these tires is next to impossible.

265`s are a little shorter and don`t quite look right. I knew a guy who had a 77 with a 4/6 and 265/50/15`s and it didn`t look right. It sat really low though.

If I have to go with 60 series tires i might make my drop a 5/7 with some spindles and a rear shackle kit.

This is why I went to a different size rim on my truck. The 15" size tires are becoming a thing of the past.

Well that sucks, I think they have the best looking tires out there. I have had them on pretty much every old vehicle I have owned.

Re: can`t find tires

275/50x15 is a 26.1" diameter with about an 11.3" section width. Check out the Mickey Thompson part number 6654. It is a 26X12.00R15LT, with 12.0" section width and 26.1" diameter. Not cheap though, $204 each through Summit http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Re: can`t find tires

Anthony, I picked up my 275's from Jegs 2yrs ago and then it took a while to get them, so i'll be out off luck if I want to replace them, but I plan on going 18's this year or next

Re: can`t find tires

The 275/50/15 tire is a 25.8" diameter tire and the 295/50/15 tire is a 26.6" diameter tire. I used to run the 295/50/15 tires on my truck, but changed over to a 17" rim and I am now running 275/50/17" tires on the rear and 255/50/17 tires on the front. These tires run 28" in the rear and 27" in the front/ They are also easier to get.

If you want a 15" tire, I agree with the statement above. Find a Cooper dealer and purchase the Cobra tire line through them. I am running Cobras on my winter wheels and my son's truck. They stand up quite well and have a good tread pattern. The tread cleans well in the snow, also.

This is really sad, all the 15" rubber sizes are slowly going away.

Well the problem is anything bigger than 15" is going to cost some pretty good money. I`m getting the whole set of 15x8 rallys for $75. My truck actually has 16" wheels on it now but they are 16x7`s with 235/70/16 on them and they won`t clear when i lower it. I`m not even sure they will clear with my 3/5 drop much less a 5/7. I would love a set of 17`s but at $200 plus a wheel I just can`t do it. I`m not working right now so it`ll be a while before i can do anything and by then there probably won`t be any 15" tires anymore, lol.

Re: can`t find tires

Every time i need tires they are a special order. Last time it took a month to get a 255/70r15 for a warranty replacement on the truck. And on my Firebird with 275/40ZR17 BF no longer had any Gforce KDW tires anywhere!! so I had to get a cheaper tire as a replacement. Seems like no tire sizes are available anymore.

I may just pass on the rallys and just get some shorter but wider tires for my current wheels. the problem is they are almost new and have a ton of tread left.

If you can't find the size you need, heres a little tool to help figure out how the sizes relate to one another. I've used it often.

Re: can`t find tires

Thanks for the link. When I was a kid i worked for 2 tires shops and knew that stuff by heart but it`s been so long I forgot how it went. The link makes it alot easier.

I did find some pretty cheap 17" chrome steel wheels that look similar to what I have now. I may just save the pennys and go with 17" wheels

What brand are your 17" tires? I started thinking about using the tax return to get some 17" coys and running the same size tires you are.

According to tirerack dot com they still have a short supply left of BFG's 275/50-15's (11 at the time I checked)

I am running Billet Specialties "Challenger" rims with NITTO NT 450, tires. these are an all season tire and they did not do too bad in the first snow that we had here. However, I did not want to crud up the billet rims, so I went back to my old AR beater rims and the Cooper tires. Another good winter tire that is available, and they have a lot of sizes left, is the "MASTERCRAFT" Avenger line. This tire is built by Cooper Tire and is a good all service tire.

I have a local Sport Truck/Street Rod shop that sells items to beat anyone's prices. I purchased my tires and rims through him and beat the prices of even the computer outlets. (Mounted and Balanced)

Re: can`t find tires

Does anyone know if Dunlop quit making the Dunlop (radial) GT Qualifier in a 295/50/15? I think they have : ( I think they still offer other sizes tho? I ran these tires for quite a few years and was very happy with them. Here's a pic of them on some Cragar prostar wheels that i sold a few years back. I agree it's getting harder and harder to come by the 15" tires, mainly the 295 width sizes. I think this is dumb. Everyone i know has a set of 15's either as show wheels, or winter beaters. Everytime i try to order something they are always on backorder, so i would have to assume there is a demand for them still? I have run many makes and styles of tires over the years but the BFG Radial T/A (for 15's) is my fav and should NEVER be discontinued, ever! Just my opinion.

Thanks. It doesn`t snow where I`m at but it does rain. The truck is my daily driver too so I need something that will ride good and last a while. I looked the Nitto`s up in that size before and only found the 275/50/17 in a drag radial. I`ll have to look again.
