Project Nephew--71 4x4
My nephew, Austin, came to me the other day and asked if I would help him build a truck. I was floored and honored! I didn't think he was interested in my old trucks, much less want one of his own! He will be 15 in March.
I talked to my brother and he gave me the ok to buy a 1971 chevrolet c-10 4x4. It is the yellow long bed stepside that is in the for sale section. I just picked it up today. Austin hasn't seen it yet! It drives good. The PO got it in a trade and only put about 150 miles on it in a couple of years. It didn't idle very good, but I found out why---there was no pcv valve--just the hose sticking in the valve cover hole! Fixed that already and she idles great. I'm going to let him drive it around the ranch for a while and let him figure out what he wants to do with it. I'm just glad he is interested--most kids these days won't give these old trucks a second look. I will get him subscribed to the site so he can do a little surfing and maybe decide how far he wants to take the truck. I'm having trouble posting pics---new camera! I will get this figured out and post some--otherwise you can look in the for sale section. OK--got one loaded through photobucket! Thanks John

Do you need another nephew?
What you're doing is awesome. Your nephew sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders.

Re: Project Nephew--71 4x4
Great looking truck. I like the steppers myself.
I guess because they look like work trucks. Do you have a picture of the rear bumper? I have been looking for a rear bumper for my '71 long stepper that I use here on the farm. Enjoy your time together working on the truck. Danny

Re: Project Nephew--71 4x4
I love that truck just the way it is!! maybe throw on a new front bumper and some tires and drive it!
I've always loved the long steps, its kinda the red headed stepchild of these year of trucks. While LawMan02s truck is one of my all time favorites heres a couple pics of another fine example in stock form. Erls 68 GMC

Blazerman,
I dig the green stepper! The older I get, the more I like stock appearance! Shyguy, Here's a pic of the rear bumper.
