What year is my truck??

Hey all. In trying to research the previous question I posed (about the timing issue) I went to my Chilton's manual and got sidetracked into looking up various things about my truck based on the s/n plate on the door jam (Ya, I know-I get sidetracked easily). Now, all my registration paperwork says my truck is a 69, but based on what I read in the manual, I'm beginning to think my truck is a 70. Can you guys help?

Thanks!

Re: What year is my truck??

The fifth digit "9" tells you it is indeed a 1969.

Now I`m curious what the book said that led you to believe it might be a`70.Not to sidetrack the thread or anything.

Re: What year is my truck??

even without decoding the VIN (which, decoded DOES in fact say 69) but in 70 they went to a single VIN/GVW plate.... so just at a glance, it's 69 or older.
Just a tidbit for info junkies there.
Here's the best decode page, and it's part of this site.

5th digit means it is a 69

Re: What year is my truck??

An interesting tidbit that you won't see listed on the VIN decode... your production number... 856680...
Some ppl will assume that this would be the 756680th off the assembly line, since the very first would be 100001.
HOWEVER...
If an assebly plant, (Tarrytown in this case) had 2 assembly lines for the same line of vehicle, the first one on line A would be 100001... and the first one off assembly line B would be 800001.

Doesnt your truck have a 71-72 nose on it? I am from Livermore also and have seen your truck accross the street from my apartment. Small world. I have a '70Burb

You're right, it does.

As for the other posts, the reason I started to get confused was this little blurb in the manual: "...The fourth letter is for the model year..."

My manual's pretty old and misses the first couple of pages-plus it came w/the truck so for all I know it's the wrong year manual...

And chevybuldr, how come I've never seen your burb? I drive by those apt. everyday...is it on the street, or parked way back in the lot?

I'd like to see your burb one of these days....

Re: What year is my truck??

"Z" in the VIN is Fremont, Cal. Not far from Livermore.
