Shift lever removal

1977 3-spd auto, tilt column. I'm rebuilding the column, and in the process removing and re-chroming the tilt, turn signal, and shift lever. Looking at it, I think the pin holding the shift lever on needs to be drilled out, but I wanted to see how others have gone about taking it apart, and if there's more to it than just the pin I can see...
