Question Need Help with rear u-joint / u joint retainers

Hello,

We installed a '72 front member , and rear axle on my son's '67 in which we are running a 350/350. The parts truck was a '72 LWB 402/400 with a 2-piece drive shaft.

I went to oreilly and got some ujoints for a 1972 c10 one piece drive shaft 350/350 . The rear ujoint is not wide enough to fill up the ujoint space in the rear. I also picked up some ujoint retainers for a ;72, which dont fit either.

My question is should i get ujoints for a '72 402/400 for the rear? and a '72 350 350 for the front. also the rear seems to have threaded holes, did a '72 402/400 use the horse shoe type ujoint retainers or a different type?

Thanks for any help or suggestions !

I'll call a driveshaft shop, i was hoping to be able to make this work without modifying the driveshaft.

There might be availible what they call a bastard joint for your situation, If I read correctly. It's hard to visualize and cross reference in my head.

Re: Need Help with rear u-joint / u joint retainers

Yeah its been awhile, but i had todo something similar to my 56 apache. I think i got it at a driveshaft shop. I will call it's been years....

EDIT, I just called driveshaft king, and they state they should have a Cross-over ujoint that should work...

Thanks kayotic, I mentioned the different size ujoint to the guys at oreilly and autozone and they were in a trance...

im pretty sure you could swap the pinion yoke off your old rear.. both were 12bolts right?

They are both 12bolt rears, I pondered that, but did not know if they would interchange between the 67 and 72 though......

Re: Need Help with rear u-joint / u joint retainers

orilies ujoints (precision) are junk anyways. its always funny to ask for something not originally on the vehicle and watch their faces.

we call them conversion joints you probably needed 1310 to 3R
