I'm rebuilding one and can't find performance parts for it. Anybody ever "hopped" one of these motors up? If so what did you do, and got any advice for me?

They have tons of advice.
Also look over cliffordperformance.net
They make some awesome stuff and have some good write ups about what you can do to hop things up.
Oh ya, one more thing. Get Leo Santucci Chevy Inline six-cylinder power manual. Its a great book loaded with tons of info!

You could also go to www.stovebolt.com or call Tom Langdon. He has some basic hotrodding stuff for the inlines and can give you a lot of info about the 250. He worked on the development of it at GM. His website is.. http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/

The aforementioned book is good. The gist of all of it is finding ways to make the 250 breathe better. There are issues with the exhaust/intake ports that can be resolved to do this, and multiple carbs are usually desirable to supply a consistent supply of fuel to all the cylinders.

Like posted above breathing troubles are usually addressed by carbs and headers.

Speedway motors has a few chevy 6banger stuff. Heres a direct link to the 6 cylinder stuff. Offenhauser intake and exhaust. Gotta let that puppy breath!!

It just depends on the level you want to hot rod it. If you want to just make a mild street machine, headers, holley 390 four barrel or three progressive 2bbls and possibly a RV cam. Some have used the pistons from a 305 and made a little more compression. If you want to make it really run strong you need to consider some lump ports for the head so the air flows over them along with polishing and porting of the head.

I had the mild version without the cam in a230, both with 2-1bbl Rochesters and the Holley. Ran good both ways, but the six won't wrap up real tight, so I used my torque up at a fairly low rpm and the valves would float a bit. The cam would have helped I believe. I ran this with duals out the back with Smithy glass packs at first , but then put on some VERY raspy chambered mufflers made for the corvettes with the exhaust under the door. My neighbors hated those!!Sorry, all i could find were the black and then chevy orange versions with the dual rochesters. I probably have the one with the holley 4bbl at work.

I'll look tomorrow if you promise not to tell my boss! I think the holley was in 2004, and I had a hard drive crash shortly after. I think the reason they call "backing up" your computer by that name is because you always thinkabout it in hindsight!!

I think i had those on the computer at work though.

All of that toying around with the 230 and I finally got the original motor rebuilt and put it back to factory stock(almost). It was my grandpas truck and I wanted to make it close to the way he bought it.

I want a 6 cylinder because I'm kinda tired of seeing smallblocks in everything, but I'd like to have a little bit more power than the stock 6.

Well you live kinda far away. How would you want to arrange that?

And I have a 292 in my 1966 C20.

What would be your transmission choice for a 6 cylinder be?

You could probably go to the local scrapyard and look for an 80's camaro with a 5 speed and pull it..... Or find a rebuilt one for sale.
