Re: Promblem Heater Core
Remove the black box underneath the dash on the pass. side. May be a bolt or two to undo in the engine bay. Drain the engine coolant. Remove the heater hoses. Blow on one of the hoses to drain any fluid in the heater core so its doesnt end up in your cab. There also may be a some linkages on the box for the damper that need to be undone. It may be helpful to take the glovebox out, not sure if its necessary, its been awhile since i've tackled this. I'm sure someone else will chip in.

Re: Promblem Heater Core
nah it is just hald tight by some adhesive sealer inside.. if you pry on it it should pop open... if i dont kno what im doing i go to the local pick a part and find one that is intacked and try to pull it.. sometimes it is alot easier to do it this way cause you know where the screws and stuff are and what you have to look forward to breaking on your truck

Re: Problem Heater Core
87 so just try to pry it until it pops open i got one more question so how many screws are inside to and do i have to take the fender well off to get to the outside bolts. Because the one my friend gave does have two bolts on the bottom of the black box. But looking in the engine bay looks like i will have to take it off

Re: Problem Heater Core
I am right in the middle of a heater core replacement project on my 78. Pull the glove box so you can remove the control calbe. Not sure if the box is the same on an 85, but you have to line up the control lever with the slot to get the core and the panel it's mounted to to slide up. Mine is an AC truck, not sure about non AC or like I said, if the 85 is the same.

Re: Problem Heater Core
Yo! The heater box should split into two parts with the core inside. My '78s' heater core is held in the heater box with two heavy wire loops and screws. Remove the four screws, the wire retainers lift out, and the heater core comes free. Unsure about the '85 design, but I'll bet this might help,...certainly possible that it's fixed in place with adhesive, but check it carefully once exposed.
Todd.
