C/K 1500, C-10, Silverado - Differences?

Can someone tell the differences between the 3?

My 86 is a Silverado, but when did it stop being a C-10 or C/K 1500?

Tony the Silvarado is just the nameplate that classifies the level of trim or equipment the truck has. I think they were all C10's until 1988 and up. They are what they call the C/K 1500. C10 refers to the Chevrolets and GMC's are C15's I believe.

Re: C/K 1500, C-10, Silverado - Differences?

The C-10 and the K-10 (K was for the 4 wheel drive versions of the C-10)stopped with the 1987 Model Year. Also, the 3/4 tons where the C/K-20, 1 tons where the C/K-30.

1988 was the first year for the C/K1500 for the 1/2 Tons. 3/4 tons became C/K2500 and the 1 tons became C/K3500. Around 1999/2000, the C/K deisignations stopped all the trucks became the Silverado.

There were no C - K trucks in 1987. They were R - V series GM light Duty trucks.

So are the 73-80 trucks considered a 'Silverado'?

Re: C/K 1500, C-10, Silverado - Differences?

silverado is just a package that comes with the truck.

other options included cheyenne, custom delux, seiera grande, and there are a few more for which i cannot remember.

a c series was 2wd whereas a k series was 4wd.

10 half ton
20 3/4 ton
30 1 ton

15 heavy half
25 heavy 3/4

the idea between the "heavy" chevys was to get the truck out of some necessary emission control requirements judged by gross weight, and payload.

Re: C/K 1500, C-10, Silverado - Differences?

My '86 GMC's are both K1500 trucks so I think that for a while anyways the GMC's were C or K 1500/2500/3500 and the Chev's were C or K 10/20/30.
