I was out looking for a parts truck for my restoration project and I ran across a 69 Chevy lwb (coils) with a 72 bumper/grill in it. The truck has the original 350 with 88,000 miles on it. Factory air still in tact. The interior is in very good condition, stock radio, etc. The truck was driven to the spot it has sat in for the last 12 years!! The downside is that it has a lot of cancer. The bed floor (metal) is in bad shape, the rockers are almost gone, and the cab looks to be in rough shape with rust up under the drip rails and even on the firewall. The front fenders and doors are in good shape with only surface rust. Front fender is excellent.
I need some fenders, doors, the front bumber, some of the A/C parts, and maybe the engine. I asked the old boy what he would take for it and he said to start at 2,000 and go either way!! I was thinking more like 800 to 1000, but he didn't bite. Could I part the remaining pieces out to justify the higher cost, or would someone be interested in the truck. It is about 3 hours from my house, but I could probably get pictures. I think if you wanted to spend the dollars on new metal it would be a great truck to restore. Oh, and no tilt or tach or I would have bought it! ------------------ 2001 GMC 2500HD Crew Cab Duramax, Allison, 4WD, Love it 1971 Chevrolet 1/2 ton 2WD Short/Step Side. if the rockers are seriously almost gone literally nonexistent then its basically a parts truck anyways, and should be super cheap, sounds like a 100-300 dollar truck to me. unless it runs and drives and is reliable in every mechanical way.
where are you at ? sounds like you are int he rust belt too, when you say rust under rails and firewall, do you mean actual real rust or just surface rust? ------------------ Randy- Lincoln, IL randy@ccaonline.com 2177353230 *many GM parts bought, traded, or sold -am parting out: '81 Cutlass Supreme Brougham current fleet: -71 C-10 350/CH465/3.07- basketcase, #1 -90 Cavalier 2.2L sky blue, a driver -84 Z28 5.0L/700R4/3.73 daily driver -84 Firebird/SE 2.8L/T-5/3.73/engine bad, project #2 -82 purple Trans Am, project #3 *Paint is overrated* © RSS Enterprises 2000 |

The rockers are not completely gone meaning that there is nothing left. I guess I just meant they would need to be replaced. As fro the cab I noticed on the firewall in the center there was a piece actually rusted off the firewall itself. The cab up by the rear view mirror area was bubbling up as well. It had way more rust than what I would want to deal with. I am in Missouri, so yes rust is the norm!

ttt. wow, I thought I would get more feedback. I knew I needed a camera with me! If I take the doors, fenders, front bumer, A/C and motor is there anything else left that others would want?

500 bucks top end.
I saw a similar 38000 mile truck, but low miles means nothing if the truck is going to cost a fortune to restore. It is much cheaper to but a western truck and pay the shipping.

Sorry, been preoccupied.
I went through the EXACT same thing in November around Thanksgiving. I saw a '69 LWB 3/4 ton truck that had the SAME setup as my daily driver, except it had a 4sp manual+Custom options. I decided to buy it, but only for $600, and only because: a. It had some major parts I could use (bed sides, hood, engine, coils). b. The ones that were worthless (cab, rockers, doors...) I DIDN'T need. c. The parts I could use outweight the price he wanted, so it was a good buy. NO, don't buy it unless he's ok with $300-600 max. Problem is this guy's stuck in "1 owner" fantasy land, and probably can't get over that. Yes, you can have a 1-owner truck, but if it's rusting apart then it's not worth sh!t in my opinion. It just means it wasn't taken care of. It's a parts truck. ------------------ '69 3/4 ton C20 2wd w/ 350ci/400THM and a wood bed! Sounds like the same old story. It was probably nice when he parked it but was asking too much. It'll sit there until he passes away. He wants way to much. I would throw him an offer that is fair then if he doesn't take it, give him your number, and walk away. Make sure you don't hold your breath. lol

Thanks guys. This is exactly what I was thinking. Max of 600 is where I was on the truck. He thinks it is a restoration project and I think it is a parts truck. I will leave him my number and see what happens.

original 350 with 88,000 miles
Why was it parked 12 years ago? Think I'd pass. I bought 4 trucks for 800, and by the sounds of it they had a lot less rust. ------------------
