sbc 400 vs 350 vortech

so when i was at school today i was talking to this kid and some people said his 350 vortech in what i think is a 90s Chevy pickup could pull my sbc 400 in my 82 k10 and im tryin to talk the kid into a tug of war match for his tool box in the back of his truck...i think i about got him talked into it but before i finalize the bet who's truck do you think would win his is bone stock and mine is almost bone stock just some upgraded spark plug wires and an edelbrock air cleaner

Tug of War? I assume this is with the trucks? No one would win, the winner would still need a tranny rebuild.....

the trick is too do it on soft dirt so instead of the losers tires spinning backwards they just slide

who has the better tires? both 4wd i assume? your 400 probably has more torque than his 350, so thats an advantage for you, manual or auto trans?

Dumb Idea. There are more than enough mudholes and hills around Ga. Challenge him to an off road match.
Tug of truck war equals something breaking or projectiles flying with someone getting hurt or killed. Also tranny purchase. You mentioned being in highschool so I would imagine money being an issue since you saved money to buy your truck. Why in the world would you want to destroy it?

I agree not a good idea. If you proceed, I hope you have plenty of money. Didn't you say you didn't have a drivers license?

Re: sbc 400 vs 350 vortech

I work with a few guys that are heavily into offroading. They settle their differences in the mud. That way if something breaks, it was because of their dirty efforts. It's the right thing to do. Wait till he get's stuck and then pull him out. Total bragging rights.

Re: sbc 400 vs 350 vortech

Willett reminded me of something. I was pullin a tree and I was using a cargo strap off a container truck and it broke. I had 25' of chain and a hunk of my scalp on my dashboard in a heart beat. An inch or two to the left and I wouldn't be here tellin ya not to bother, ain't worth it. If ya want to pull stuff get your ass up here. I got lots of trees I need a truck on while I cut them down. jim

Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.

I think its cheaper to buy a tool box than a windshield. The tug of war thing is just an accident waiting to happen. Dont do it bud. LIve to fight another day. lol

sorry, when you said "school" and "kid" in your first post i assumed high school. Coupled with the idea of a "tug of war", it just seemd like a shoe in for the "school" that you attended. my bad

30 year old carbureted small block vs 10 year old EFI small block with superior heads, roller valvetrain, and probably better gearing. keep toying with him, he'll quickly show you whose boss. 400s are great engines dont get me wrong, but if you want to throw out the "there's no replacement for displacement" card, do yourself a favor and only pick on guys with carbed trucks with flat tappet cams. you're just setting yourself up to get humiliated.

Re: sbc 400 vs 350 vortech

You're still dealing with 30 year old technology, his heads will outbreathe yours and he probably has more compression. I think it's a toss-up. Now if you drop some Vortec heads on yours, it's a whole new ballgame, you should beat him handily.
