Engine size?
Well I've got a question, Its about the size of the engine in my truck..
When I bought it the guy claimed it had a 305 in it. Well I knew if it had a 305 then it'd been changed since they didn't come with a 305..Well not only that but the oil dip stick is on the wrong side for it to be a 305. So I was able to get the numbers off of the engine. If someone wouldn't mind running them and seeing what size it really is that'd be great! Here are the numbers as best I could see them... 12W387811 VO612CTK On a side note I've got a website to run the trucks VIN thru and all it says is it did indeed have a V8 which I knew already...lol Last edited by Chevypower292; 01-24-2009 at 11:05 AM. |

Re: Engine size?
The CTK suffix code says it could be a 305. It also could be a 307 or a 400. these were built in 72-78. Check out nastyz28.com they have all the numbers.

Re: Engine size?
The information I looked up for you came from nastyz28.com. Of the numbers you put on your thread the first numbers are partial VIN numbers, the one ending in CTK is the Suffix code, thats what I broke down for you. The other useful number is on the drivers side of the block near the bell housing, the casting number. The casting number is kind of hard to see but if it's not to dirty back there you can take a blind shot with a camera or use a flashlight and a mirror.

Re: Engine size?
Don't get sad if it is a 305 though. The 305 is like larger women, some guys really like them even if their reputation isn't popular.

Re: Engine size?
Hey, glad to help out. I just started learning about all these numbers as I just picked up an engine I'm going to rebuild. Now I'm into looking for some heads so I have all the head numbers I carry with me now as I go through the wrecking yards and CL.
Mortec and Nastyz28 did all the work.
