Front crossmember...

Our 1971 front crossmember wont bolt into our 1966 Suburban. Its off by an inch. Whats the deal?

This leaves me to wonder why you would change the whole crossemember when they are the same. Just swap out the control arms and stuff and bolt them on your original.

Well this is what we ended up doing after all. And joe231, yes they were both half ton trucks.

which one is too wide?
maybe the sub frame is different than the trucks?

The frame was to wide.

The frame was probably just a little sprung. Should have been able to just squeeze the frame rails together with something like ratchet straps. The front crossmembers are all the same width whether Pickup, Suburban, Panel, C10, C20 or C30 from 1960 to 1987.....all the same width. Sounds like you got it handled though.

When i did mine i had to use a bottle jack and piece of wood to make it wider but it was only like 1/4 in so i could get the bolts in..
