AC pump for Compressor?
I am sure there has been great discussion on this topic on these pages previously but I missed it. I have a 454 in my rig and want to install an on board air compressor to air down the meats. I know there are many options, but would like to get some feed back. Pros, cons, successes failures, generally what guys have done. I am not running ARB's, or air tools, I just need a good air source to refill my 44's after a day in the snow. I have been told certain pumps are bolt ons with the appropriate brackets and I am leaning that way. However I would like a fast fill so the more cfm the better. Thanks.

Re: AC pump for Compressor?
I have heard of a lot of Guy using I believe the york compressors on the jeeps, i am not sure about the Chevy's. i have thought of doing this as well. I know some compressors you can just put a filter on the intake and others need a way to oil the incoming air because they don't have adequate oil in the case. I would do a search on google and see what turns up.

Re: AC pump for Compressor?
use a York or a sanden 508.. sanden 508 is better imo.. sanden is the same pump the Vintage Air uses and all those other A/C companies use. very easy to find brackets to mount it to a SBC or BBC..
check out alangrovecomponents.com for brackets.. and look on ebay for the pump.. i believe you can still pick up rebuilt units for about $150

Re: AC pump for Compressor?
Another option is a Harrison / Frigidaire A6 compressor. They are the big log compressors found in all GM vehicles from the late 60s through early 80s. They are self-oiled similar to a York, and put out a ton of volume at high pressures.
