Cab mounts - 70's vs 80's

Is there any difference between the cab mounting brackets on the frames for a 76 frame vs an 86 frame? I have a 76 shortbox frame I want to use with an 86 cab. I have a new set of 86 rubber cab mounts, will I have any surprises when I go to bolt this together?

Thanks.

Joe, get a set of mounts for the '76 frame, i was going to do a similar swap with a '78 C10 frame, and my '82 cab, and that's what i was told to do. also, you'll have to trim the front frame horns for the bumper to fit correctly, but its not a big mod. CaptKaos has pics of what needs to be trimmed, maybe he'll be nice enough to post them for us.

Re: Cab mounts - 70's vs 80's

Cab mounts are frame specific. Get the ones for the frame model.

If you plan to use the 80's clip, this is the link to the pic.

The cab mounts are frame specific.

The cabs from 73 to 81 are different than the ones from 81 to 87.

The early cabs were 2wd and 4wd cabs. The difference was the dimples in the bottom of the cab.

The newer cabs are all the same they fit on either 2wd or 4wd with the right hump installed.

You would use the 76 mounts on the 86 cab and it should go right on. Or you can use the 86 mounts with a 2 inch body lift and it should go right on.

Good luck.

More info: I do plan on using an 89 Sub front clip I picked up. I will trim the frame horns to use the later model front bumper.

As far as the cab mounts, I know there are basically six.

Are all six mounts different from 73-80 vs 81-87? Or is it just the front or middle or rear ones?

Thanks.
