Do I need new springs?

the front springs hit on the frame all the time, what can I do to stop that or is it just normal?

Re: Do I need new springs?

My trucks all have a bracket behind the front shackle that prevents it from hitting the frame. Sorry, I don't have a picture.
Your springs look ok to me. They should be replace if they bow upwards. Stock springs are flat.
Also, the bracket is only on the driver side.

Re: Do I need new springs?

I think that this a a common problem. Offroad desing sells a shackle that is not much longer than stock but a lot more heavy duty that should help with the problem. One other thing to think about. Did you buy the springs or were they on the truck. You might want to check the part number they might be for a 73-87 truck instead of 67-72. The springs for the 73-87 are longer this could casue your problem.

x2. when i put my new 12 in. springs in my 86 1 ton, they actually pulled the shackle to the front, almost to the same angle as u have here.

Re: Do I need new springs?

Guess I can't see it, but where is it hitting the frame?? You want the shackle angled back alittle bit, it helps in flexing and a better ride. I would get longer shackles, only need 1/2-1" tops. Can go to a metal shop and get some peices probly for free, just cut them to length and drill a 7/16" hole.

Re: Do I need new springs?

Its hitting on the red, I bought the truck with the lift already. Could it be the shocks?

Re: Do I need new springs?

No. You don't want the shocks to be the limiting the spring movement or you'll break your shocks. Your springs must be flexing a good amount to be having contact where you have indicated. I would consider your shackle angle to be fine.

Hopefully the guys who know a bit more than I about suspensions will have a good recomendation for you. Slightly longer shackles will probably be the recommendation.
