What im thinking about doing - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have $2200 and im trying to figure out what I should do, here is what i have so far
Buy a new motor(not crate just rebuilt) or rebuild mine
Fix My vibration
Relocate my gas tank
And bag it or Get 3/5 drop kit(there is a guy that lives down the road from me that bags trucks for people im gonna see how much he charges)
Do you think that will cost much more than $2200? if so i can take relocation my tank first and i think the vibration is just the flywheel that is about $40

How much will it cost to bag it? I found a rear bag kit for $450 and then i can just lower the front or is that a good idea

The cheapest GM crate engine is the Gen 1, 250HP crate engine that you should be able to get from your local GM dealer for around $1,500 with tax. Call around to your local dealers, I found that my local dealers varied in price by about $50-100 or so. I bought an "autozone" rebuild YEARS ago and it was about $700 after my core, but I think they've gone up a lot since then. Had I know the GM engines were so "cheap" I would have saved up and bought one.

I recently looked into a complete ECE 3.5/5 drop kit for my truck and it's around $800. That's 2.5 spindles, 1" springs up front, 5" springs in the back, new track bar and shock relocation kit, and 4 new shocks.

I'm leary of buying any engine or transmission parts that have been rebuilt without some kind of warranty, especially $1,800 expensive.

I read that you have a vibration problem in your build thread... ANY idea where that's coming from? It may be your front end is wore out, it would be a good idea to rebuild the front end to go with your drop and that's a few hundred bucks to do it right too.

From what I know, you can get a pretty complete bag setup for 2k or so. N2TRUX and a few guys in teh suspension forum would be your main men to help price that.

Your first priority should be getting reliable. If you need a fresh motor, then get one. Check Summit Racing for prices as they are hard to beat. My personal opinion is I would NEVER buy a motor from an individual...ever. You just don't know the quality of the build. Buy a GM crate motor or one from a local builder that has a good reputation.

Once you get it running good, if you have anything left over go with a static drop. As time and money allows, consider adding bags. Use spindles up front as they can be reused if you bag.

Priorities first, fun stuff second...

I agree with N2TRUX on getting it reliable and about the new motor. I agree on the Summit part too. I'd check with your local GM dealership first but if they want more then I'd go with Summit. I checked with my GM dealership last year about the 260hp GM 350 Goodwrench motor and they wanted almost $2,000 for the motor whereas Summit has it for around $1,500 plus truck freight. Glad to see you've decided to keep the truck too.

Then whats left over save for suspension. Oh, and buy a fan shroud, or buy stitches when you touch it accidentally.
