Vacuum advance question

Hey
How can I tell if my vacuum advance is working BEFORE I put the distributor back in the truck ? I hooked it up to another vehicle, but I don't know how much vacuum I need to pull before this thing should move. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Re: Vacuum advance question

If you're referring to the movement created by vacuum, it should move by just sucking on the end with your mouth. I use a short piece of hose if it's still on the engine.. Doesn't take a log of vacuum to move it.

If it doesn't move then it's defective.
