What did you get done? 01/25

WOW! What a busy week I had. I had two new accounts open this week so work was insanely hectic. In the middle off all that I had to make arrangements to meet we the guy that was delivering my Blazer.

I didn't really have room for it in my garage, and since it currently won't roll, I need a place to put it inside. That meant I had to move my 84 Z-28 outside.

Fortunately I found a buyer for it. I hated to sell it, but it needed someone that was really motivated to won it. I found a young couple that it fit their needs and made the a deal they couldn't refuse. The rollback picked it up yesterday.

With the Blazer and all it's many pieces now residing in the garage, I realized I had to clean up. Even though I have a six car garage, I had no space, and no place to store anything. Drastic action was required.

I went to Home Depot and came home several hundred dollars lighter. I bought sheet-rock, cabinets, shelves, and storage bins. It doesn't sound like much but it took two trips and me AmEx card was smoking.

I spent most of Saturday, and all of Sunday working out there. I really suck at hanging sheet-rock so it was slow going. I got six pieces hung, and called it good. That allowed me to hang my cabinets and shelving for the storage bins. I plan to but larger tubs and bins in the upper part of the cabinets.

The other half of the garage is still a disaster, but that will have to wait until next weekend.

What did you get done?

Re: What did you get done? 01/25

I got 4 van Rally wheels with like new tires. The tires are going on my steel wheels for the 77, and the van rally's will go in storage until I decide what I am going to do with them. Friday I received my drop spindles, flip kit, c-notch and shocks for the 77. I also started working on another batch of 6x9 speaker brackets. That was just a small part of the weekend, the rest was spent with the family.

I got all the 4wd brackets off the frame and cleaned it up and painted it grabber green. I am going to the pull-a-part tomorrow to get the rear 2wd brackets. I will have half of a 2wd truck by next weekend.

Put 160 miles on my truck this afternoon, mostly highway with some back roads. Truck ran like a champ, and reminded me why I like it so much.

Re: What did you get done? 01/25

I didn't do anything to the truck...went to work on Saturday and today got up and painted the master bedroom with the wife...and it looks alot better...my house is a hodge podge of renovations gone wrong or not finished....so the master bedroom was half painted white and half painted a light grey and now it's a light blue that's very calming...we also rearranged the bedroom and there's alot more room in there now...the room is 14x22 and now it looks like it's that big...while we were rearranging, I had to get up in the attic to reroute the cable wire, remember hodge podge, and when I rerouted, I found out there's a section in the attic about 10x10 that doesn't have any insulation at all...the attic needs more insulation everywhere as it is, so tax refund time I'm gonna get up there and blow me some cellulose insulation up there....

Re: What did you get done? 01/25

I had to work a little but actually got in some 'me' (shop) time. My buddy Matt helped me yesterday & today. We moved all of the assorted pieces I've been scrounging & built a semi-fixed frame 'table'.

I found some un-used steel (3x3x.250 x 20') that was being stored in an old company building (stainless parts stash house). I found 2 matching 'stands' that were about to be sent to the steel recycler. These things are heavy-duty (3x10" main w/3x5" 'legs'). The steel is .250" thick & they have 1" all-thread adjustable legs (x4) @ each corner to help w/leveling.

I attached some cut down pieces of the 3x3 to the stands as cross rails (4 in all) & then added a couple of full length tubes as the main rails of the table. A few tacks later w/the mig & we had a frame table.

Once the 'table' was assembled, squared, & leveled, we quickly had a lwb 67-72 frame on there for some choppin' (lwb to swb conversion + a 'Z'). A few hours later, everything for the frame was leveled, measured, reference marked, then braced.

Cutting will commence tomorrow after work . I would post pics but apparently the teenager of the house has absconded w/my USB camera cable.

Re: What did you get done? 01/25

did a heater core on a 99 jimmy... not fun when the shop heater breaks and its below freezing outside.. let alone the total mess it was to get out to begin with... but man when it got back together enough to fire it up and turn the heat on in the truck it heater the whole 3 car garage... that was saterday into today.. then i got some ME truck time and decided it was time to tighten all the bolts for the notch and 4 link and then cut the existing frame section out... now all i need to do is buy the porterbuilt drop member and i can do the front but thats income tax money... and to those of you who wanna know more about the heater core... if mine ever goes in my 00 jimmy i will sell the truck before i ever do that again.... what a pain in the....... the whole dash has to come out... then the whole a/c box in the engine bay had to come out... all that jsut to get 3 screws out of the heater box and the heater core just slides right in... another poor gm design....never again...lol

Re: What did you get done? 01/25

Sat. did a lil work on the 79. I installed the head light relay upgrade. Fallowed CptKaos's INtructioins as per http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/exte...ight_relay.htm

It took me a little bit. Standing there with a handful of wires and a pair of wire cutters was a weeee bit scary. But after reading 15-20 times or so. Super smooth install and upgrade.
Sunday.... Just relaxed and worked on the resume.

Wired up the exhaust on the minivan winter beater. Tore out the front room fireplace. Figured out how to disassemble the headstock on my lathe so maybe I can replace the belt.

Got the heater core replaced on my 78 k10, which is good as the high temp today is only going to be 14. Need to set the idle speed and reset the timing next.

Re: What did you get done? 01/25

I managed to get the brakes and master cylinder bled on the truck, then got it turned around in the garage without having to take it outside, since it doesn't have a motor, but we managed. After that I finished gutting the motor and got it ready to go visit the machine shop. Hopefully should be in the midst of assembly in the next couple weeks. Found out the crank was already ground once and it had a comp cam and not sure what else done to the motor, but for 150 bucks I think it will be a runner.

Re: What did you get done? 01/25

Working towards my 2wd to 4x4/ th400 to sm465 switch...
Thursday went to the junkyard looking for 4x4 parts I'm missing, picked up a taller center hump to bolt in later...
Saturday went back to the junkyards and picked up a sway bar and ordered polyurethane bushings from Autozone for it. (I only found 3 bars in 2 yards, none with good bushings) Got my buddy to come over and look at the differences between the 2 trucks, made a plan, set a date for the cab swap (2 weeks) and began stripping donor truck of stuff im not using...
Sunday I spent most of the day putting the clutch pedal into my truck because I tried to do it every way but take the steering column out. Took bumpers and hitch off, radio and antenna out.
