Best Disc Brake Conversion

So I am deploying to Bahrain in December and after a lengthy talk with the wife, I have approval to get my truck into "daily driver" status instead of buying a new truck when I get back.

I want to start a build list with approximate costs associated.
The truck already has a GM Goodwrench 350 with a Rochester quadra jet and flowtech headers. So that is pretty good.

I am seeking your wisdom with my plans...here is what I have currently.

1. Power disc brake conversion
2. Replace all brake lines
3. Professional exhaust (mines all clamps and cherry bombs)
4. Rebuild/refresh tranny (I am doing a filter/gasket change this spring but may want it pulled to do more when I get back)
5. Read diff inspection/flush.
6. Rear brake shoes/drums.
7. Radio install

I have thought of adding power steering but I am not sure what the cost would be...

Thanks for any advice you can give. I would also love to hear about any vendors that you recommend.

-Drew

Filters
Fuel lines
Flush gas tank
Tires

You ought to be able to get used PS parts here for $200. Another $60 at NAPA will get you fresh hydraulic lines and a v-belt.

PDB isn't real high on my project list. For a DD, I'm more about will it start outside reliably, does it have defrost and do the headlights work?

Re: Best Disc Brake Conversion

Good call on the tires and fuel lines...I will definitely add those.

Headlights work and the only filter that needs to be replaced is the tranny.

Would it be worth doing a gas tank relocation?

I really want to do the disc brakes after I drove it from FL to Northern VA and had to deal with some DC area traffic. I don't want to have to constantly ride in the left or right lane in case I have to ditch b/c some prick cut me off...

If it helps, I am trying to keep this in the $7-8K range.

If you want the best disc brake kit, Early Classic is your source. The other source is CPP, but lots of folks on here have complained about their lack of customer service, missing hardware, and other issues. There is none of that foolishness with Early Classic.

You can go to a boneyard and get the whole spindle setup from a 73-87.You will need to use the ball joints/tie rod from whatever year you get.

Re: Best Disc Brake Conversion

If you plan on lowering it you may want to check into getting a kit.The cost to rebuild calipers, replace rotors and so forth may be more than a kit.You probably need to evaluate your front suspension to determine how much will need to be replaced.
