M code 350
My '86 came stock with the "m" code 350. I've also heard it referred to as the "heavy duty" 350. What's different? I've heard heavier crank and that they run hotter. Is this true?

Re: M code 350
The 350"M" is a 4 bolt main HD eng. the crank is the same dimentions as a regular 350 but of a different material. They don't run any hotter or cooler than any other 350. The radiators were generally larger because the engines were put in trucks that were ordered for heavier work, especially if AC equiped. I have one in mine. With the exception of doing a valve job at 200,000 miles I have done no major work to it. If ya keep them tuned and the oil changed they will run forever. Mine is at 465,000 now and it runs great. jim

Re: M code 350
Good question Joe. I was Chevy Mechanic for 33 years and I really don't know, never needed to. If you open yours up, take a look for a pink paint splash on the crank. If it has it it's a good chance it's forged steel.
