Alternator bracket question

Will a '72 smallblock alt bracket fit '96 vortec heads? Also, I have a good power steering pump from a '68 el camino(sb), would it fit my '72 truck?

Re: Alternator bracket question

Look at the bolt pattern on the front of the heads. You may have to drill and thread a new hole, then again maybe not.

Re: Alternator bracket question

The pump should fit except:check that little steel nipple for the return line.It may not be pointed in the right direction to fit your application.

Re: Alternator bracket question

NOBODY is running Vortecs? I have an engine on a stand up at my Dad's with Vortecs and I'm thinking about tossing it in the burb. I just wanted to know if there will be a problem with the bracket bolting up to the head.

Re: Alternator bracket question

As long as your heads are threaded. They are in the same spot as older engine V8's. Depending on what brackets. I used everything from a short W/P. May want to get a serpentine setup plenty in the junk yards with everything W/P pulleys, PS n Alt. Get the higher amp 1 wire system. Decent upgrade and simple.

Re: Alternator bracket question

I have an engine in my garage, that has vortec heads on it, and the bolt holes look as if they line up with the heads on my older engines.
