"the beast" truck bed build thread
well i started redoing my wood bed i threw some wood stain on it about a week ago and i wasn't satisfied with it so i fixed and sharpened my brother antique plane and started taking it back down to bare wood the stain I'm using is called "antique walnut" here is a pic of some of my progress but any pointers would be very helpful...

i would be very weary of using a plane on the bed wood.
i would be more inclined to use light grit sand paper on a belt sander, and very careful not to hold it in one place too long!! a wood plane is designed to level warped or wowed wood, not to strip old finish. it will remove unnecessary amounts of lumber.

dude
if i was there i would totally not let you use the planer.. ever.. not withign a mile of me! why? because im accident prone and i would some how lose a damn finger.. hell i lost the end of one removing an oil filter! he he he

but on a serious note
i would pull out the wood and pretty it up all nice like.. use the planer sparingly.. no orbital sanders.. maby a palm sander... and use exterior quality stain and a sealer.. and.. what color you going? i know u arent gonna keep poopy brown are you? i LOVE ebony stain i thing it looks F-ing sick in a truck bed.. especially with chrome and black finish.. or red.. period.. .. just my 2 cents

Poke. I hope you didn't use treated lumber. Treated lumber doesn' play well with steel, galvanized or aluminum. A while back in another thread I told a fellow how to do it with oak and how to finish it so that it would last for years without a problem. If you can't find the post I'll put it up again for you. 1984 K20 350M engine with 465,000 miles. Well, it's finally done!! Almost 2 years of work, but it was really worth the effort. Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! your not going to get it to look "good" without taking it out. but if you insist on scraping it off use a paint scraper.
it would be much much faster to pull it out and refinish with the proper tools, even thought it is held in with a million little bolts. JMO

but there is always a birghter side.. you diddnt ahve a jerk PO that replaced it with steel or anythign ghetto like that...
