WIW - Rebuilt Overdrive A833/NP440 Transmission (rpo MY6)

I may have for sale a recently rebuilt A833/NP440 overdrive transmission from an 81-87 Chevy truck, less than 6000 mile on it since a full rebuild kit was installed. However, the main shaft is worn, so I am going to replace that and any other part that needs it.

This trans has the correct Chevy bellhousing pattern, but I will include a good aluminum truck bellhousing that fits the 11 inch clutch with the tranny.

Tranny will include the original OEM Hurst shifter and correct linkage. This shifter and tranny clears the bench seat just fine and is in the corrrect location on our 1970 C10 with V8.

Shoot me some ideas on what it would be worth. I would offer a warantee that everything is as it should be or money back. Thanks. GM

Unhappy Re: WIW - Rebuilt Overdrive A833/NP440 Transmission (rpo MY6)

i hope you have better luck finding a main shaft than i did. i bought one of those a-833 trans from an 84 pickup . paid $300 for it with the shifter. i thought it would be a cool transmission, like a manual version of the 700r4.i took it to a transmission shop to freshen it up with a rebuild kit, the mechanic said the main shaft was worn badly on the front end where the roller bearings ride. and the main case was worn where the cross shaft pin rides. he had no luck finding parts . so i put the gears and the shifter on ebay , and got about half my money back.

I have a parts tranny, well it wasn't supposed to be a parts tranny, it too was bought thinking it should be good, but it has other issues, but the mainshaft is good.

Thanks for the offer, the tail housing is good. These trannys are very strong, unlikey to find any broken parts even behind a big engine. Personally, I think the biggest problem, is that many, if not all were filled with Dexron ATF, too thin, and not the right additives for a manual tranny, causing wear problems that should not have occured.
