1972 rear view mirror?
I have a 72' GMC, and I had it restored . It has a new windshield and I forgot to mark where the little metal piece glues to the windshield. Could someone please measure theirs and tell me the measurements.Does the metal piece go exactly in the center of the windshield horizontilly the same distance left to right and how far down from the top of the windshield seal does it go? Thank you. Dave

Re: 1972 rear view mirror?
FWIW 72 was the only year the rear view mirror was mounted to the windshield. All other years were on the roof.

Re: 1972 rear view mirror?
Hey guys , I saw another truck and I measured it and it was 3 1/4 inches from the seal to the top of the metal piece. Could a couple more of you please measure yours and see what the measurements are? Thankyou.

Re: 1972 rear view mirror?
I doubt you will find an original measurement. The glue holding them on tends to let loose and most people just glue them back where it's comfortable for them. They may raise it a bit to get the mirror higher out of their line of vision or lower it so they can set it better depending on the usual drivers height.

Re: 1972 rear view mirror?
I have mine mounted 3 1/2 inches from the bottom of the seal. The bottom edge of the mirror is in line horizontally with the sunvisors in the down position. I hope that made sense.

Re: 1972 rear view mirror?
The Factory assembly manual may have the proper location you are looking for.

Re: 1972 rear view mirror?
on the inside of my windshield from the bottom of the rubber seal to the middle of the piece that mounts to the glass it is 3 1/4 inches. Not sure if this is stock or not but my windshield looks at least 30 yrs old so it may be.
