Should I get a big sucking swooshing sound (vacuum) when I pull my gas cap off?
I noticed the "Gas Smell" post and I am having the same type of problems. Should I get a vented cap?

Yes you should.
I've seen tanks with so much pressure that as soon as you twists the cap, it gets shot at you. So i can't see how that much preasure can be good for the tank.

I usually get back pressure on hot summer days. Been looking for a vented cap but they seem to be rare as hen's teeth in these parts. I'm using an aftermarket locking cap right now and I sometimes reach back and push in on the gasket to release excess gas fumes while driving.

No you shouldn't. The gas caps for 71 and 72 were non-vented and 67-70 were vented. If your cap holds a vacuum or pressure, then the cap is not vented. Either it has become plugged, or it is a 71-72 cap.

Venting
Getting that much pressure in the tank can cause other problems also. It can starve the carb in hot weather, stubbling when accelarting, and it could colaspe the gas tank in some cases, if you can't find the caps try routing a peice of fuel line some how to vent it.
