Bench Seat Tilt

I'm 90% sure on my bench seat I'm missing the level to allow the seat to tilt forward.

Anyone have a up close pic of how this lever works so I can tilt my seat forward.

My 74 doesn't even flip forward but all the other ones I've seen do with a lever.

Hrm sounds like a odd design by a crazy Chevy engineer then.

Perhaps I'll be having to swap out the bench seat.

hahah funny :P No I do know the difference.

Oh and might I add.. somehow they got 6x9 speakers behind the seat so I'm assuming then they pulled the seat at one time to do this.

Re: Bench Seat Tilt

hey cool man, i'm from vancouver too!

north van over here

and mine has a half-assed lever on the side right at the pivot point. it looks more like a cut out peice of 1/4 steel though.
it won't work unless i slide the bench forewards (sub is in the way)

Re: Bench Seat Tilt

Mines is an 84 and it just folds over, no levers at all. As mentioned higher up, if it was a crew cab or suburban bench it won't fold at all. If it came out of a blazer with rear seats it does fold with a lever lock. jim

Alright.

So then the question is this.

How can you tell if its a blazer seat? Is there any difference?

Re: Bench Seat Tilt

reading over your higher up posts it sounds to me like you need to slide your seat forewards using the lever right overtop of the tranny hump, and then take a look behind the bench and see if you have the same mechanism that i have.

Re: Bench Seat Tilt

Sorry to jump in. I have a 86 sivlerado all factory interior and my bench seat just tilts forward also. I thought I was missing something, but after looking it over real close it looks like everything is intact. Go figure.

I am not aware of any Blazer coming stock with a bench seat in it?
If you are referrring to the back seat on a Blazer they are so different (narrower, with side armrests) I couldn't see anybody taking the time to make one work?

Re: Bench Seat Tilt

on some earlier trucks, I don't know what years, the seatback doesn't tilt forward. that was an option but may not have come on the base trucks but i don't know what years.

Yah this truck is a 1980 Sierra so its the very base model in its year so it could very well be why.

Re: Bench Seat Tilt

The tilting seat option started in 1975, 1973 and 74's from the factory don't tilt. The pre-80's had levers, post did not.

Re: Bench Seat Tilt

My 81 doesnt have a lever either, just pull and it tilts..... my dad had a truck that the lever was broke off on and we just stuck a finger in the hole in the material where the hinge was to pull the release to tilt it foreward.... only problem is sometimes you smash a finger or get grease on it.... lol

Re: Bench Seat Tilt

I have heard that on the ones that don't tilt you can remove the top bolt on each side of the seat and it will tilt forward. You would need to Loctite the bottom bolt so it won't come loose.

hmm I'll have to look into this.

So I just looked into this and sure enough the upper bolt on the passenger side is gone but its there on the driver side. Downside is its so rusted I can't get it loose even using a bfh and a screwdriver.

May have to get it ground down or something.

Hasn't beat me yet.
