Tow Rig Radiator Replacement
My '72 K20 is going to become my limited use Tow Rig when my Yukon goes away, and I want to make sure it's up for the task radiator/cooling wise...
Has a new crate 350 (250hp), and a TH350 trans, with cooler lines going to the Radiator. New Heater Core, t-stat, and Rad cap just installed. Appears to have developed a leak in the radiator now. Towing duty for this thing will be maybe a few times a year, with a flatbed trailer and my offroad rig. I am considering adding a Vintage Air type set-up eventually too... for the limited towing I will be doing, should I get an external tranny cooler? not sure how many core rad I have right now, but it runs cool all the time. thoughts?

Re: Tow Rig Radiator Replacement
In my opinion cooling is not something that should be messed around with at all, it should be done properly the first time. Any trucks i have had that have had an automatic get an external tranny cooler right off the bat, saves headaches later especilly if you are towing. As for the radiator i always buy the biggest baddest one i can afford at the time, my rigs tend to stay cool.

Re: Tow Rig Radiator Replacement
I plan on getting a surplus NASCAR radiator for my BB tow rig, and running the biggest trans cooler I can afford, hahahahaha.
+1 on not skimping on cooling, especially w/ a tow vehicle. |

Re: Tow Rig Radiator Replacement
B&M & other tranny companies all claim that a 20F drop in tranny fluid temps will double the transmission life.
I'm sure they are quite optimistic, but even a 25% increase in trans life is worth it to me.
