Re: tranny help!!!!!!!!!!!

The cost effective way is to get another 4 speed or go auto.NV4500's are expensive and unless it's a really nice truck it would/could cost more to do than the truck's worth.

Re: tranny help!!!!!!!!!!!

well what gears do you have in your diffs?
if your gearing is waaaayyy low (like alot of ushere preffer it) first gear will be well .. 'slow" second gear will be yoru starting gear and 4 th will be your "cruise everywhere gear"
u can have the tranny rebuilt to your own peronal specifications..
but it might justbe cheaper to changr out your ring and pinions to a higher ratio

hey whats the specifications for yoru truck? what all have u done to it? is it lifted etc?
if it's lifted.. or you plan to lift it.. id leave it well and alone until u finally settle on a tire lift combo you like..
then change the internals..
just my 2 cents

Re: tranny help!!!!!!!!!!!

Don`t you have 3 gears with that 4spd?1st is granny,so it really is a 3spd.But,that`s all you need.Heck,I can drive mine like a 2spd in 3rd and 4th.The NV4500 is nowhere as strong as these 4spds and very expense. All you gain is o/d.It`s still a 3spd.If you have tall tires they do the same thing as o/d on the hiway. The right rear ratio makes a big difference.I like 35" tires,4spd,and 4.10s for all around driving.I just don`t run my old lifted trucks along with the modern stuff.
If you can find a cheap NP4500 that`s one thing. But,when I bought my second crate NV4500 from GM they even wanted a $500 core if I kept my broken one. They are expensive and way in demand.Over-rated IMO.

Re: tranny help!!!!!!!!!!!

ive fot 37's
i love my tranny to death.. there r times i wisht the gearing were different.
BUT this bad boy is "perfect" with 410's and 37's...
and i almost neever use first gear unless ive got a ton of stuff in the bed or am going uphill...
or out on the trails.
i ran 33's for a week and was severely dissapointed in my gearing.. but i realised its cause i was running little girl tires....
put my 37';s on and was happy again..

Re: tranny help!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 36's and 3.73 and I love it. But I see where your coming from the ratios arn't the best. But with the right axle ratio their not that bad. I use to have a 350/SM465 with 33's and 3.08's and hated it. It was a real dog. I also had 427/SM465 with 33's and 3.08's that was a lot better. But now I have a 427/SM465 and 36's with 3.73's and love it lots of take off power and doesn't scream on the highway. the gears seem alot closer with the lower axle ratio.
