Front hub help!

We are taking apart the front hubs on my 84 K10, it has a 10 bolt front. We got the outer collar with the spring and the inner collar with the spring off. Now there is a piece behind the inner collar that held it on with 1 phillips head. What next? Is there a snap ring or something? All help appreciated!

Re: Front hub help!

Pictures of a better discription of exactly what kind of hubs you are working on will help a lot. I don't recall a phillips head screw in any kind of hub? but it could be the work of a PO

Re: Front hub help!

A good set of snap ring pliers should take care of it.

Re: Front hub help!

I held the snap ring with a pair of needle nose (so you wont chase it in circles) and took a scribe (ice pick lookin hootus) and popped one side out.

Assy should slide out.

Then take a spud socket and remove outer jam nut.

Then remove perferated washer.

Then use spud socket to get bearing nut out.

Disc should slide off.

Re: Replace studs?

Lay disc flat on wooden surface.

Hit studs with large hammer! They are pressed in.

If you want to re-use the studs....thread on a lug nut and hit the lug nut to preserve the threads.

I would suggesst replacing the studs. They are cheap!

No, I mean how do I get the hub casing(?) off? It is separate from the disc.

Re: Front hub help!

How do I lift the ring enough to get anything under it to be able to pull it out? From what I can tell we would need VERY small, curved tip needle nose pliers.

Re: Front hub help!

Just get it to stop spinnin in circles. Try to stop it with the gap at the bottom of the hub. Hold one end, pry the other. You outta be able to get a scribe or a very small screw driver under the end of the snap ring and pop it out toward you.

Its not easy and takes time and patience!

The trick is to get it to stop spinnin.

Re: Replace studs?

Once you drive the studs out, the hub should seperate from the disc.

The stud kinda holds them together.

Its not like a Toyota or Ford.

Re: Front hub help!

Snap ring pliers are the easiest. If you don't have them, 2 small flathead screwdrivers will work work. You just got to fiddle/pry on one end with it until you get under it, then you'll be able to pry it out in a circular motion. Also, a piece of coat hanger with a very short 90 deg bend on the end works well on the perf. washer.

Re: Front hub help!

It takes me a few beers to get it out.

I really love it when you pop it out.....and it pops right back in!

I'll see if I can get some pics.

My dad hit the studs loose before we even got anything apart.

The disc and the piece the studs are packed into are separated. Will the piece the studs are packed into come off with out me having to get the snap ring out and all the inner stuff?

No, how do I get the piece the studs are packed in off. The disc is a separate piece from what I can tell.
