Heck, in most parts of the country, those numbers were GONE by 1973..

Re: Painted Numbers on Frame....??

I take it that none of those numbers show up anywhere in your VIN or on the SPID.

I would be guessing that they had to do with shipping the bare frames from their point of assembly to the plant that built the truck. You have seen flat cars loaded with stacks of bare frames. It may be that when your truck was built the way that the factory marked shipments is what that marking shows.

If there is anything on my frame, it's covered by surface oxidation.

Re: Painted Numbers on Frame....??

either,
1. like chevloray said, a shipment or lading number when the bare frames where rail shipped or,
2. those look like military text templates. was this truck ever in the service

Re: Painted Numbers on Frame....??

looks like a military marking of some kind to me also,at least same kind of stencil was used. it's not a gm marking whatever it is.

Re: Painted Numbers on Frame....??

Hmmm....The truck only has had two previous owners....both from the same family.....I don't recall seeing anything on the SPID regarding any type of military options....or any other weird options....The truck has been in AZ it's whole life....

So no one else has ever seen numbers like these on a frame?

Re: Painted Numbers on Frame....??

I have never seen them, though on my frame there were factory chalk numbers that stated it was a fleetside 4x4. Trevor
