My new Friend, 1969 C/10
Where do I start; I'm giddy!! I've got(had) a '67 swb GMC, not enough room/time/money for what I see happening and I spots this 1969 Chev longy on the jiggy-jig(kijiji)-internet classifieds. Says-original,no-rust,307cid/3 spd std. I gets ahold of seller on the telly, says it was pappys truck in Montana for over 30 yrs, stayed in the familia ever since. I goes and looks at it(with a trailer and cash), I hears the family story of pappies truck, an hour later I'm on the road seein pappy in my mirror. Sold the sheet metal from my '67 project for what I paid for the whole works(kept the lowered disc etc. etc. chassis). So now, I have a '69 chev that seriously has ONE rusty rocker and a complete swb chassis, hhmmmm what to do what to do

Re: My new Friend, 1969 C/10
That's looks to be a clean, solid truck! I think you should use the short chassis, your solid cab and front clip, and find a short-wide bed for the final piece. Of course, after you pull the long bed you'll need to get it out of the way. Just send that old bed to me, I'll take good care of it!

I've got a better chance of growing the most luscious BOOBS you ever saw than finding a good short box around here! Swinging that 3-on the -tree kinda makes me re live a youth before my time! That 1 3/4 exhaust sounds like a donkey fartin though.

Re: My new Friend, 1969 C/10
alright, yank the 307, but in a mild 350...lower it, and a nice exaust...maybe even a T350 auto.
leave the body alone. the truck looks great, would make a super driver.

Re: My new Friend, 1969 C/10
All my new frt susp. stuff would work(67-69(?)),but I'd need power boost for the brakes. I could swap front crossmembers complete, my TBI 350 will be back next week all new, fling in the 700r4, swap rear diffs for the 3:73's(67&69 are same-no?), add brake booster and master cyl and I guess it could run by the time the snow melts end of may. Or I could get a staw hat an try not to punch myself in the chin gear jammin on the column.

Re: My new Friend, 1969 C/10
Thanks for the comment, but you say that like I haven't seen the pics of the amazing little truck you just scored! For the 4 g's I paid, I think this 69 is in phenominal shape, every wire etc is right where the General put it.

Re: My new Friend, 1969 C/10
Well, some poking and prodding proves nothing is as dreamy as it seems; nothing too dramatic, open the vents and the cowl sides are PACKED with foliage, hoping they're not held together by paint. The truck was painted 20some yrs ago, I think it took a poke in the box side high behind the wheel and had some rust in a rocker so they did the whole truck. I've never come across FAKE side marker lights though, no wires and no holes in the light for a bulb.

Re: My new Friend, 1969 C/10
great looking truck -- lets hope the old re=spray helped preserve it better rather than hide problems. If rust is bad enough, it will definitely work its way through in 20 years i would think.
I like survivor condition vehicles, ---- i would be strongly tempted to run the truck as it is with lowered suspension and maybe a front disc conversion. The 307 is a bit of an anomaly. I have had 2 that ran great after a comprehensive tune up, but have had friends with the engine that could not get them to run nearly as well as mine. I'd make sure it was running right before throwing it out. Its a good engine, but worth nothing to re-sell.
