anyone done it....Just two men? No equipment. A cab, no doors, no glass, no steering column. stripped?

good luck....we put something like 2x6's thru were the windows should be and lifted with 4 people and it came about a foot of the ground and that was it.Alot heavier then they seem for sure

I have a 55 Chevy Truck and me and a friend took mine of the frame. We put a 2 by 4 through the door and he on one side and me on the other and walked it right off the frame it was not that heavy.

2 of us did it with a '70 cab no problem. Just some gloves and lifted it by the rockers

jesus how big are you guys? ok maybe using 18 and 19yr olds wasent the best idea but most of us are still above 6ft and 180-190lbs....hell im 6'4(you guys must be vikings or something)

This may sound a bit odd but I took one off by my self. I un-did the bolts then jacked up the cab over the height of the tires and rolled the frame out from under the cab. I just had to do some rearranging of the blocks to get past the wheels when it got that far.

I have since made a support beam for my engine lift to take cabs off.

4 is the safest method. that way you can yell at someone other than yourself for dropping it!

I've slid a couple of cabs off by myself by lifting it up enough to slip a couple of long planks under it and then sliding it off to the side. I have even transferred one cab from one chassis to another this way by myself once.

I forgot to mention it's a 54. The guy I bought it off of said he and his buddy put it on the frame. I was telling him how I was gonna use a engine hoist to take it back off, when he told me about it. Really had no reason to lie. Just wondering if anyone else had done it.

joeys66pickup, what kind of truck were you lifting? (I'm kinda leaving you an out here so maybe you can tell everyone it was a Kenworth or a Peterbilt)

I have to do most of my work alone, JD came in handy for the lift

If I had to do it by armstrong, I'd do it like dwcsr did..... I lifted an El Camino off frame like he explained, wasn't that difficult at all.

Just caught your other post on using an engine puller, that works good too. I've used them with cables attached to the body, similar to what I show in the pic....the cable would get bolted to the fender bolt hole.

its a 59' cab....but it had alot of bondo! and door windows so that has to count for something

thing was a ***** to get onto my 65' frame even with tires flat

did it with two people on a 53... Handed some 2 x 4s through and then just picked it up...

I can't count the times that dad and I set on and off the cabs on our trucks during our builds. The cab is much easier, than a bed with the wood and tailgate on.

I used the engine hoist the first time, and the second time by myself with 2 2x4's as a "ramp". that time sucked. i would suggest the engine hoist.

we didnt care about the cab on my friends 49 because it sat for 37 years got trees fallen on the roof so we just pushed it off and drug it with a truck...sorry im no help

We got it done a couple weeks ago. We brought it to the sandblaser where he removed the cab with a frontend loader to blast it (it was just strapped on the frame) then when we brought it home we set the cab right on my trailer. Then, me and my brother, one on each side with a landscape timber on each shoulder, walked it right off and set it on the dolly in the garage. Real easy.
