Need some info

ok guys I need some info on the motor that is my truck. I was told it was a crate motor. The number on the back of the block is 3970070 and the numbers on the head are GM 24 and also 3932454. Any info you guys could dig up would be greatly appreciated.

The heads are off a 68-69 307. Can't find the block number,m are you sure it is 3970070?

It's probly 3970010.....probly just got some gunk making it hard to read...

I was told it was a 350...so i'm thinkin the heads are off a 350. any ways to tell the difference

The heads are off a 307. Run the numbers thats the only way to tell. Any small blosk head will work on a 350 but a 307 is a low horsepower engine so I would guess they are a large cc with small valves.

according to mortec the heads could be off a 307 OR a 350. Either way they're probably smogger heads with valves as big as 1.94, 1.50's at best.

The book I have only shows it to be off a 307, I dont always trust the internet , off course this is an old book. I don't doubt it could be off a 350 ,but I would still bet this is a low performance head.

Agreed....I don't have any books and just rely on mortec but they could be wrong. Like you say low performance either way.
