5 or 6 lug? Backspacing?

I've got my bags and everything suspension wise and I'm looking at running some 20's or maybe 22's on my 72 and want to also do a disk brake upgrade. Should I go with 5 or 6 lugs? Is there a kit that anyone recommends? Also, what backspacing should I run to stagger the lips of my rims (larger lip in the back, smaller in the front)? Could I acquire this stance by running different width rims?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions... If anyone has input I'd appreciate it...

Thanks

Re: 5 or 6 lug? Backspacing?

You might want to spend some time researching wheel choices. Your decision may have an impact on the questions you have asked. Many wheel styles are only available in certain sizes, with a set backspace. Some are 5 lug only, and some might be 6 lug only. If you are going to buy billet wheels, you can customize the size, backspace, 5 or 6 lug, etc.

There was a time when it was almost mandatory to convert to 5 lug to get a decent wheel choice. These days, the selection of 6 lug wheels is much more abundant.

Re: 5 or 6 lug? Backspacing?

I would recommend ECE (Early Classic Enterprises) if you decide to do the lug swap.

Now I have a question.... most '72s are 5 lug so is your truck a 6lug or are you asking if you should swap to the 6 lug for wheel choice?

If it were me, just my $.02, I would keep the 5 lug setup, drop it and buy some wheels.
