Poll...Is your truck a numbers matching truck?

Ok...I am courious to how many have number matching trucks verses those who have engines other than what the truck was manufactured with...

Re: Poll...Is your truck a numbers matching truck?

No and most likely won't be again. I do have the original engine and trans though but the engine has a rod out and the trans needs a rebuild.

The truck was a plain Jane work horse truck and matching numbers are no big deal as it wasn't some special edition with a special engine.

Plans are still for a 500 Cad and turbo 400.

Re: Poll...Is your truck a numbers matching truck?

Numbers matching, well I guess mine is. All the numbers on my paper work match.
Sorry couldn't resist.
Lets see motor is a 1987 305 HO
Transmission is a 700-R4 out of a 1987 Camaro
It has all the orignal sheet metal, frame, rear end though does that get me any points!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Mine was when I purchased it then I tossed the 307 and the 3spd. Now it has a 406 with a th350 it is 100% a hell of alot nicer, faster and better looking. I even cut the dash..

Re: Poll...Is your truck a numbers matching truck?

My 1970 C10 came with a 250 six and 3 on the tree. I think this was one of the most common set ups. When I bought it was already replaced with a 350 small block and a 700r4. This is a very common swap.

I think most people are less concerned with numbers matching in these trucks and more concerned about current performance.

If I had a highly optioned truck with a 396 or a 350 and every other option AC, PS, PB ect I would probably keep it numbers matching. 90% of these trucks came from the factor ready to work and not ready from comfort.

So my opinion is hot rod them unless you got a rare one, but I respece the stock only guys as well. Just my 2 cents…

Very good point and I would say an accurate point of view.

Yep, original 350, numbers matching. Even though these days "numbers matching" doesn't make a difference to most people, I'm happy with a 350, so I'll keep it that way.

Re: Poll...Is your truck a numbers matching truck?

Bought mine off the original owners son... Still has the stock 327 in it but if it dies I will probably just go with a crate motor and store the original.

Re: Poll...Is your truck a numbers matching truck?

The frame and the cab have matching numbers. The number on the block says it came in a '69 Chevy truck just like the one I have. I don't think these trucks have anything of a number that physically ties THE engine to the rest of the truck. My SPID matches, too, and shows that the engine I have and the transmission, are just like what it had when new.....although it is entirely possible that they both will be exchanged for new. I'm thinking a Goodwrench 350 and a 700R4. Need $$$$. Send soon.

My Suburban is all original for the most part, still with it's original 327/4spd/T221/D44/Eaton running gear.

Re: Poll...Is your truck a numbers matching truck?

OK, I have been curious about this for awhile...How do you tell? I think my trucks both have the original stuff on them but what resource do you check it by? I really would not care if they were not numbers matching because I don't intend to make a concourse show winning truck out of either of them but I am curious. Might be of some interest to future owners if I go to sell them too.

Re: Poll...Is your truck a numbers matching truck?

Mine was the 250 6 with the 3 in the tree numbers matching truck.I had to change the tranny cause I put it into reverse and the 3 speed fell apart. That tranny was so small I could hold it with one hand poor thing,so I change it to a sm465 then the 6 started to give up.Man could I do smoke shows the only problem was it was from all the oil going through motor. Now I have a 454 and a turbo 400 that will take its place. But I am rebuilding the cab and clean up every part or replacing it if it needs it.I hope if I do it right I can get another 40 year out of it.This time I will keep it park in the shop.

My profile pictured 71 is but my 72 in the shop isn't ..

If the Motor ,,Transmission and Rear End is what came with the truck it is considered Numbers Matching ..

I had to vote for the third option since mine had no motor in it when I bought the truck.

The engine, trans and I believe rear axle housing have the numerical portion of the serial number of the truck stamped on them.

On a restored or original truck it means that it is "all" original just as it was born at the factory.
This is often way less important to those of us who modifiy our trucks and a lot of these trucks had exchange engines in stalled in the past 36/40 years.

On a special edition truck like a Highlander or anniversary model matching numbers make it more interesting if it is restored to showroom condition or better.

On first generation Z28's, COPO edition vehicles and other limited production rigs matching numbers does mean a lot of difference in the value and actual documentation of the vehicle.

If I was intending to restore a truck to showroom condition I would probably want matching numbers just to have it as an authentic restoration.

So they should have what, the last 5 numbers of the VIN? Last 7?
