Compressor recommendations.

Please post pro's and con's and quality and specs and so on of 12v compressors. I currently have a Viair comp. but don't know the #. The truck is 100 miles away in storage, and will be purchasing another one. What should I look for? Do I want 100% duty cycle? What about warranty and longevity? Like I said I have 1 Viair comp. and one 5 gallon tank and will be adding another comp. and another 5 gallon tank, and I run 1/2" line and RE7's on my 72 GMC. What do you guys recommend?

It sounds like you are on the right track with the exception being the 1/2" line. Unless you want a really fast system for clowning, there isn't a need for the more expensive 1/2 line and fitting required. I suggest 3/8" line, while some feel 1/4 is large enough. Consider your needs, but don't assume you need 1/2".

I already have the 1/2" valves and line, so I'm stuck with it and I kinda like em. I am just wanting some recommendations for a compressor. THX

I would look into an engine driven compressor and add another tank. You'll be much happier that way. Lots of people are piecing together all the parts and putting together their own kits. You could also keep the existing electric comp for back up in case the truck won't start and run the compressor. Making your own bracket isn't all that hard, either.

As for the best compressor for you? Is there any chance to see what you have? It would be best to match it. That way you have the same duty cycle and pressure rating for your switch. You want to run 150 psi or 200?

I run a 150PSI PS. Two electric compressors will take FOREVER to fill 10 gallons. You might want to reconsider. If you think you need ten gallons you probably plan on playing with the switches. You are not going to want to wait for the electric compressors to fill up, it sucks. Try a york with and use your electric compressor for backup.

I assumed Viair comp's. were the way to go.

For what you are thinking about the extra tank and 1/2" lines a york might be the best bet.

10gal in the tanks, another gal. in the bags(4) and another half gal. in the lines 1/2" lines.

Again I haven't used any comp.'s but seen Viairs used a lot.


Thinking: It takes a tad over 2min for an elec. comp to fill 5gal's from empty.

The Viair that I do have is a 150psi unit. The truck is over 100 miles away in storage, but I will be getting it out in a few weeks. If I run out of air with the two 5's, that's ok. I plan on tieing the 2 tanks together. I just wanted to gather some more info about compressors before I make the purchase. Thanks!!
