Vin question?

I have a 1972 Chevrolet (CKE232J105272) truck. Most of us can tell what it is by first glance. Any history or thoughts on the "3"? The Owners Manual states for body style "3" as noted Cab-chassis instead of "4" Cab and pickup box. I would assume this truck was sold as a k/20 without a bed, for what use?

Thanks for your help, Smitty1964

Re: Vin question?

off the top of my head, that is the code for cab/chassis.
Back then, many trucks were sold like so, flat beds or utility beds were common, as was a cube box (think u-haul).

E v-8 gas

J Janesville assembly plant
105272 would be the 5272th truck to come off that assembly line for that model year... that would be a VERY early 72, built in the late summer of 71... see if there is a sticker in the drivers side door jamb on the door its self... it'll give a month/year of build.
