When is a deal a deal!!

I get PMs all the time for parts,prices,shipping. Some post a thread wanting a part, then I let them know I got the part,then they PM me wanting to know the shipping cost for the part and I send them the cost,address and all that stuff and the parts are still setting here pack and ready to go out the door,now I do sell alot of parts here and other place's but it is wierd how people wast your time.I even have a truck that 3 people have bought and it's still setting in my yard and havent seen a dime.
Were does if end!
How much time do you give someone to get back to you when you got 3 or 4 people asking for the same part but knowone will commit to it in a timely fashion.
Does this happen to any of you?

I know what you mean! I have lost money holding on to parts that someone is supposed to buy but never comes through. Sometimes you have just got to tell people that you won't hold parts or vehicles for them, first person that shows up with $$ gets it! p.s. your shroud is in the mail tomorrow. Thanks!

First come first served. If they want you to hold it get a non-refundable deposit that will hold it for a week.

I get the same thing. I always try to be fair. Like I was looking for a burb found the one I wanted. So I e-mailed everyone back that had sent me info on the ones they had for sale telling them I had bought one. It is nice to know if someone is not interested in something after they ask about it. Just my 2-cents worth.

I get alot of requests for custom door panels and headliners going thru all the color combos and art work only to find out their just window shopping. I've wasted lots of my time with alot of people.

when i sell soemthing i give them a week or so to forward a check and then time to clear before i ship. If someone buys a whiole vehicle from me they pay a deposit and pay in full before they remove the truck. If someone says therye buying a truck or car from me they better have the money i dont waste time. Now if someone is suppouosed to send a check and they are suppoused to pay or come for it , and they contact me again and give one legit excuse, ill make arrangements one more time but other than that lol i figure first cash first serve

Sorry but I just had to vent, I just cant belive what people will say,I like it when you give them your phone # now that will stop everything,I had a guy wanting a large part and was gonna travel a ways off to get the part but when I gave him my home # I never heard anything else from him. I try to be fair and treat folks like I would like to be treated but I guess when your on the WEB your open to alot of different types of personalities and such.

I think that it is good that you posted on this subject. There does seem to be some window shopping and hedgeing going on, but there are a lot of folks on the board that know how to treat you in the transactions. I believe part of the problem is people are not sure enough of what they really want to do and they shop as part of their planning. Commiting to spending money causes
trama for some, especially if they don't understand costs of things.

I just received a part from M C and he is a good example of someone that I like doing business with. We do the small talk, but he lets you know the things you need to know to complete the deal. He lets you know the cost of the item the cost of the shipping, the condition of the part, where to send the money, etc
right up front. When we are buying a part from someone, we should approach it the same way.

I really think that if we want to buy something, decide before asking someone to go through a lot of time on their part. Most board members sell parts for reasonable prices, and the wasted time is not covered by the prices they charge. I don't think that
time spent on transaction is necessarily bad, but if someone does not buy after a considerable amount of time is spent on the deal,
than it affects the seller adversely.

Hers another slant on this topic that I have dealt with. Fortunately, this had nothing to do with contact over internet. But the bottom line is I am a little leery about helping people that I don't know all that well.

I had a friend who was forced to sell his truck, wife was divorcing him and he couldn't drive any more because of physical disability (had an eplieptic seizure while driving and rolled his previous truck). My new neighbor next door mentioned to me that he was interested in buying a truck. OK, I figure I could help two people out at once.

I introduced the neighbor to my friend and they talked over the truck. I don't know how they worked out this deal, but it sure went sour later on. The neighbor says he doesn't have the entire settled amount , $2500 for a 1986 Chev 1/2 ton. My buddy had to get the truck out of there fast so I guess he panicked thinking he would never sell the truck. He settled on letting him take the truck and taking $500 a month until the truck was paid for. He also allowed him to enter only $500 on the bill of sale to give the guy a break on taxes when getting it licensed. So legally, he didn't have a leg to stand on.

I didn't know this neighbor of mine was a deadbeat when it came to paying his debts and I didn't know my friend was that stupid to accept such a deal. Anyway, the guy maybe paid about $1000 and then stopped payments. My friend didn't want me getting involved, after all, this guy lives right next door to me. I was out working for a long period afterwards and didn't know what happened until I returned. The guy kept making promises to my friend but wouldn't answer the phone etc. My buddy finally sold the debt to a bunch of bikers but I don't know what the outcome was. In all my friend collected about $2000 for the truck after a period of 2 years. Since then both parties have moved away. But if I see my ex-neighbor again I might exact a little retribution on my friend's behalf.

I can't help thinking about all the grief that could have been saved had I kept my mouth shut. From now on I'm not going to get involved.

As someone who is usually looking to buy & not selling, heres my angle. I've e-mailed some people about parts & prices but until both parties agree they have a deal then it's first come, first serve. I have spoken w/people who say something is for sale & try repeatedly to get in touch only to find they've changed their mind. I myself inquire about alot of different things I'm interested in, some things are a good deal, some aren't or I want to look closer to home first. Everyones judgement/situation is different. I'm looking for a clean, no/minimal bondo short fleet bed right now & I've talked w/several board members about their beds but until we agree to a deal, there is no deal. I've driven a couple hundred miles for an 'original, rust/bondo free' bed only to get there & find bondo one end to the other buried under primer so I've learned people see things differently. I just politely pass & move on to the next possible deal. If you have something that isn't junk, you will sell it, you might have to deal w/some shmucks, but you'll sell it. I don't intend on wasting anyones time.
