Hi All,

What is the best starter heat shield going? I've seen several offered.

These two seem to be a good example of the different designs. What have you used and what worked best?

I do have headers installed, but I'm getting the parts together to swap back to ramhorns. I figure a heat shield isn't a bad investment regardless...

i've always used a piece of scrap aluminium and made my own

Thats probably the route I'm gonna go unless I decide on buying one. The two I linked aren't too expensive thou if they work for the long run...

I too usually make my own from a tin can. Expecially when running headers.

Hmmm, well I've never made a shield before. Got any pictures of your homemade shields??? I'm thinking just bend some metal around it and strap it on with a big hose clamp...

I bought mine at AutoZone. Had it on since '01. Solved my hot-start problems.

Which version did you get? Blanket or the metal cover?

Up-date,

Got the solenoid heat shield from AutoZone for about 6 bucks. Had to take the starter off to get to the mount bolts for the solenoid cap mount bolts that the shield attaches with. Kind of a pain with the headers so tight. Got it back together and for now the problem seems to be fixed.
