Re: gearz 73 episode.

he did 3 inch drop spindles, with new tubular a arms.but reused the old spring's.i guess he was trying to do a budget thing?in the rear he just used drop shackle's.i think he called it a 4 inch.he had the whole rear end out on a bench to do the rear disc conversion, which made it look real easy.but you never know how many takes and stuff they cut out.every thing just comes apart and goes back together so smooth.it never works that way in real life.the miracle of t.v i guess.

Re: gearz 73 episode.

I watched the episode it couldn't have been a budget build. The brakes were expensive.

Nothing wrong with reusing the stock springs.

I just wish they did some braking and driving after they did the install.

Re: gearz 73 episode.

They were talking about the rear brake conversion and said it could be done on the truck. As for the drop kit, I planned on using belltech for my spindles and shackels anyone ver delt with this djm system. great show glad to see one of our square bodies finally on the show.. thank god for tivo

That's what I thought, "budget build" kind of went by the wayside when he brought out the ssbc components. That and the billet specialties wheels.

To be honest there wasn't much to see. The brake install might be a little helpful. They really went through the install very fast and the last 15 mins was about the rims and then pushing some product not related to the truck.

Are you looking for certain information?

Re: gearz 73 episode.

So much to my imagine my amazement when I saw this episode of Gearz and seen basically my exact truck on tv. I was super happy until he made the comments of it being stuck in the '80s. All in all good episode, good looking truck.

i suppose you can reuse em.i don't think i would,35,36 yrs is a long time.they get weak and saggy.when you got it tore apart why not put in new spring's? their not that expensive. guess that's why i thought it was a budget build.i agree the brakes and billet specialties wheel's kinda blew the budget part up.billet specialties makes very nice stuff.but,it's not cheap.
and crawdad.......you and me are gonna arm rastle for that grill.

Re: gearz 73 episode.

I liked how he was driving around with the passenger side door open, haha! If he wanted to improve the handling, why didn't he install sway bars front and rear to control the body lean he mentioned?

Re: gearz 73 episode.

The coil springs won't go bad. I use stock springs and wouldn't think twice about using them.

The camera guy was probably a bit scared when he was driving with the door open.

Re: gearz 73 episode.

The show wasn't what I expected either. It sure isn't a budget build by my standards. It was a lot nicer truck to start with than what I was expecting. I thought it would be built from a beater into something nice.

The only good thing about it in my opinion is that our generation of truck finally got some airtime. I am just disappointed that it wasn't a build similar to Copperhead or Crazy Horse, because that is what I was really expecting from the likes of Stacey David. Maybe somebody will eventually do a 73-87 from the ground up someday. ...Joe

Re: gearz 73 episode.

I just checked the schedule, they are doing an engine and trans swap next week.
Then it looks like an interior redo, but I'm not sure if it's for the truck or not.

I work with these things everyday and Boatpuller is right. those things loose springrate over time, The metal fatigues. You gotta remember that every bump in the road that spring goes up and down at least once. Same idea as an ink pen spring, just bigger wire. they definately wear out.

Re: gearz 73 episode.

I DVR'd the episode . I liked it and disliked it . The rear wheels wont allow it to be lowered any more since there isnt enough backspace . They look good but we all know that there comes a time that lowering it a little more is a must . Maybe the sway bars are coming . I cant hold any of the above against the owner or SD . My problem is that the truck was covered in a layer of dust , before and after the swap ! On national TV ! Clean that thing ! It looks like it was a nice paint job but maybe they wanted it to look a little worn until they are done with the entire conversion .

I just like the show and the fact that he works on on of "our" trucks and maybe shows some parts or ideas i can use for my truck!
And the copperhead and the hairy hauler are really cool trucks so maybe it turns out cool too!Unfortunately i can´t get the builds of them on dvd.
