I built this rack for my Panel today

I got a few ideas from some others I'd seen and awhile back we had this leftover steel from a job so I put it to use. I drew up a plan and cut all the pieces:

Square up the frame and tack it together:

Flip it over and attach some wheels:

Flip it back over and build up the rest of it:

I made it high enough so I can work on the bottom with some comfort. Probaby more heavy-duty than it needs to be, but that body could be there for several years, according to my schedule. The body will sit on it just about like shown. If I did the math right, it should be fairly level, front to back.

Now I need to enlist some helpers to lift it off the frame and onto the rack. I've heard before that 6 guys can lift a 'Burb, but a Panel is a little heavier so I'm going to try and get 8. Man, I can tell already it's gonna take a lot of beer.

Never thought I would say this to a guy...Nice rack! Here is a pic of my gang that helped lift my panel on to a stand. The darn thing was pretty awkward.

Re: I built this rack for my Panel today

Looks like a good rack. If I may give one suggestion. I would get much bigger casters. Smaller casters tend to get stuck and in a bind, especially with that big heavy body. I used some casters about that size when I did the Bel Air, and afterwords I wished I had used bigger wheels. It was kinda a pain to move. Just a suggestion. Looks good good luck. I can't wait to see some progress!

I thought about that, but I figured since I have a pretty good concrete floor in my shop it shouldn't be tooooo much of a problem. I won't really have very much room to move it around much, anyway.

Just a sussestion, and you may not need it, but you might want to put a 45% piece from front to back in at least one place...would hate to see it fold forward with the Panel on it?

Yeah-I've been thinking of doing that very thing. Cheap insurance.
