Gary (My buddy that painted the truck) and I brought the '71 back to my place this afternoon. This thing really looks slick if I do say so myself.... We got the clear sanded and Gary buffed it out. I'm not saying this guy is fussy but we wet sanded the whole thing with 2000 grit wet or dry paper, then I went over it with a wet 3000 grit Trizac pad on the DA sander. Gary then went over the truck with a three step buffing compound/polish system and finished it out. Pictures don't do it justice, that's for sure... I will take the bed up tomorrow or Tuesday so he can work his magic on it next weekend. Looks like I'm going to be sanding like crazy again this week...

.. I will be going to pick up the new parts and windshield for it Wednesday so I can start putting the cab back together. I'm anxious to get started on the assembly. This may be a keeper...

I put the Dodge Dakota push on door seals in it and I need to do a little more adjusting on the doors. I got the seals out of an '89 Dakota at the salvage yard, so it looks like you can use the push on seals out of '89-94 Dakota's. They worked really slick.

As long as it is well done (which it definitely is so far) -- it will look great , and only a handful of resto-turds like us will ever know it wasnt factory in 67-68

BTW, are there no holes in the front fenders? Are you planning on using stickum'?

By the way, does your buddy do this for a living and is he interested in taking on more work? I haven't found a shop that will take on a full paint job and you aren't too far away. I'm not asking for a buddy deal, I just want a good paint job.........

Yeah, that's definitely gonna be a keeper, and an "inside" (garaged) truck. Very nice work. How did you discover that those year seals work on the doors?

Thanks for the props! I'm planning on driving it to the Midwest Meet at Kirksville, Missouri in May (crosses fingers) and the All Truck Nats this fall (if I still have it). Gary paints as a hobby but he only takes on one job at a time, gets things done, and does great work. He is hoping to get some work from my paint job. He lives about 10 miles East of Newton, Iowa and only three miles North of Interstate 80. If you ever get up this way give me a call and you can look at my truck and I'll introduce you to him. Thanks Dan. I read on here that one of the board members used '94 Dakota seals and I used '89 seals so I'm deducing that the in between years would be the same... or very close. I looked at some '99 seals and they look the same except there is a extra flap of rubber on the inside. I can't see that it does anything but it just doesn't look as clean.

Lock Doc, Truck looks great. I used S10 weather strip on my 67. It is push on. The only area that it does not fit like a glove on is the front top because that area is like a triangle. But easy to remove as required.

Thanks Kerry,

I had read about the S-10 seals but one of the board members posted that the Dakota seals were softer and the doors closed better with them. I didn't have any trouble in the sharp corner with the Dakota seals. I just tapped it in there with a plastic hammer.

I went to a junkyard today and they had a '96 Dakota - I think the body style is the same all the way up to '97. I have new seals I installed, and even after some time, the doors don't close very well. I think I might grab those seals and see if they're any better.
