Has anybody ever took a set of the ramhorns and sanded them down and had them coated? If so how do they look and how are they doing since installed.
Is there a place to buy them already done? Mine are looking like crap. Any idea's on what can be done that will hold up.

I'm thinking of doing this and using Por-15 grey manifold paint. It may be a looooooong time before I get around to it though. I know that the Por-15 paint is awesome stuff and works well unlike rattle can paint.

I want to sand them down. I had forgot about that stuff. Does it come in colors are is it all black? Hmmmm I may check on that at the local paint store tomorrow, thanks.

I spent about 2 hours grinding to remove the casting flashing then took them to the ceramic coater and had them coated. Went with the cast iron color look but from what I understand there is a chrome type coating that looks like most of the ceramic coated headers. Haven’t run the engine yet but hope they will last as good as the headers I’ve used in the past. Powder coating will burn right off. Use POR-20 high temp manifold paint . They make it in cast, shiny aluminum, and black. I have had it on my ramhorns for 4 years now. Still looks brand new.

Man those look nice, what, how where did you get them. Did you grind them down yourself are buy them?

according to Tx Firefighter he has a high temp powder also for manifolds.
I have a extra drivers side and I will have to get the passenger side to grind them and get ready.

The Eastwood stuff is rated to 1000 degrees with peaks up to 1200. The Powder By The Pound is rated to 1200 degrees.

Just beware it cost about twice the price as regular powder, so plan on paying a few extra bucks for the job.

That looks sharp special-k ! A friend of mine sandblasted his and used that POR-20 exhaust manifold gray color that leddzepp is talking about. They came out looking nice or new depending on who you ask. I think he used it on his master cylinder too. I know it has held up so far.

Andy, I have a glass bead cabinet, and blasted my manifolds, and then used the POR-15 paint. These manifolds were done more than a year ago and still look good. When I did them, I blasted them, and wiped them down with thinner, let them dry good, and painted a thin coat on. waited a day an then put a heavy coat on. after I put them back on my truck, I ran the truck for 15-20 minutes on day and been driving it every since. I also painted the master cylinder with the same product.

I have done exactly as cparman did. It also works great on master cylinders. Brake fluid does not seem to affect it either. I also painted the entire exhaust system with it, and it also looks fantastic.

Thanks for the pictures cparman. Those look really good. I may end up going this route. I have use of a blaster at work. I have to check on the por-15 stuff.

I meant to bring home the can of paint to tell you which one it is. They have a couple of high heat paints, and some are more silver/shiny than the one I used. I also will tell you that I used a foam brush. I have found the stuff seems to go on better with one of those. The can says not to shake this stuff. I personally don't think it would do any good. The stuff is so thick that it has to be sturred. Oh yea it is on your hands till it wears off also

I've never ran a set of header's so I can't say either way. I went junkyard walking with Jesse this past Friday and didn't even think to look for some ram horns laying. I have a drivers side extra, just need to drill and tap for the oxegen senor.

They certainly seal better...but full length headers will give you more horsepower than the stock manifolds.

leddzep. there is alot to be said for no exhaust leak. I have been both ways with good results, but i think I am over the header thing. Someone posted recently with part numbers for aftermarket ram horns manifolds made by the Dorman company. I have experience with their products, and They make a set of 2 1/2 in rams horn manifolds that should flow well, and not be a PIA
