disc brake/drop spindle kit..all a direct bolt on?

Looking at buying front disc brakes and drop spindle kit from a fellow member....he wants 500$+shipping....is this a fair price, or should i keep shopping? Is everything there i need? or will i have to get new balljoints, tie rod ends, tie rods, or anything else?? really like to convert my drums to disc and lower a bit too while im at it...not really sure if its worth his asking price of 500. i hope this is not against the rules for me asking this type of ? if its illegal mod. delete this or i will.....

I paid like 300 shipped for my spindles new. Got my rotors from a salvage yard for 20 dollars. Calipers are 13 dollars a piece new. Hoses are like 20 dollars each side. So I have 353 in my whole setup. Direct bolt one to current hard ware. so its really up to you I guess.

Magauphys 2.5 drop spindles 250 plus shipping from Godfather customs
My spindles are for 1 1/4 rotors. My rotors came off of a 92 Chevy Pickup. Cost me 20 at a junk yard

Caliper for a 73 to 87 Chevy pickup 13 each from Auto zone
Brake hoses from 71 72 Chevrolet pickup 20 each side
So to me 500 sounds a little high. But if you buy new rotors they are like 100 each

If you have a 68 order for a 68. McGauphys Are some of the best spindles you are going to be able to buy for your truck. So I'm also in the "drum to disc" conversion. I have a 68, 6-lug drums. I jus bought a set of spindles for $65 (u can see a pic of them on craigslist/Bakersfield, CA). Exactly what else do I need? Also I found a complete front end(5 bolt) off of a 72 for $250, which way is easier? Not cheaper, easier! Should I piece together the parts or buy the front end?

Either way check ball joints and tie rods for wear and upper and lower cross arm shafts but imo change the whole front end. That way you can take your time, then change it out one saturday.

We did the complete '72 front member swap and rear end swap on my sons '67. we also installed 2.5 drop spindles while we had the crossmember apart for painting etc. you can see pics in our build thread . As far as being easier it depends on what stage you at with your truck. if the motor/trans is installed it adds some complexity to switching out the crossmember as a complete unit, but could replace the balljoints on your current UCA /LCA to the 72 balljoints and use the 72 parts (spindle out, and all linkage)from the other crossmember to switch over

Piecing it together is just as easy if you know what to look for. If you need to know what to look for ask. I would be glad to help.

No you have to run 73 to 87 Calipers they are the only ones that will bolt up to your spindles. Best thing to do if you are going to run 88 to 98 rotors is to get Calipers from a 89 sub (still square body) All subs had the hd 1 1/4 brakes so you cant go wrong there.

Jbristo: I'm not too smart! If I go to the bone yard, what years can I get the rotors off of? I can do like you did and jus buy new calipers. Also, what do I have to do to the master cylinder and proportion valve?

Auto Zone 100 dollars master and booster. Just ask for your year. You can use 73-98 rotors. 73-87 pickups are mostly 1 inch rotors but there were some with hd brakes that were 1 1/4. 88-98 are all 1 1/4 rotors. You can use either one. My advice would be to go to a bone yard, find the best rotors you can. Measure them if they are on a 73-87 to see if they are 1 or 1 1/4 or if its 88-98 you know its 1 1/4. Then order your spindles and tell the guy you have either 1 or 1 1/4

The only reason you would have to change tie rod or ball joints is if they are bad.
Yes if you end up with 1 inch rotors then you need calipers off of a 73 to 87. If you get 1 1/4 I would get calipers of a 89 90 sub just called they are 11.99 each

okay so master cyclinder booster buy new from autozone, roughtly 100$

rotors, do i want 1.25" or 1" calipers, what should i expect to pay for a good used set of these, wat makes them good shape? use info up there^^ for sizing

calipers, do i buy new or used, i thought somebody said i could get em new for like 20 per side but i may be wrong...use info up^^ there for sizing

drop spindles, im still unsure of, do i get the spindles for the drum break years (67-70?) or disc years (71-72)
