Need more expierenced advice

I am about to put my motor and tranny in my pickup. I just got my fire wall painted. Is there enough room That I can do this without taking my rad support and grille out with out scratching my fire wall or do I need to just stop being lazy and take it out.

Shouldn't be any troubles at all just make sure you have 2 people one on the hoist and one on the tail shaft housing of the trans as it will get close to the fire wall but shouldn't hit with care. FWIW I took the engine and trans out of my old 70' with the hood still on it not fun but do able by myself.

Re: Need more expierenced advice

I think that's what I will do. Last time I put a motor in My prissy city girl wife ran the cherry picker. I was afraid the whole time I was going to lose a hand but she did well. Better than some of my "car guy" friends

LMAO I'll tell you what I would take my wife in the garage just about any day over most of my friends she is careful and knows what she's doing.

I have never put motor and trans in at the same time,I like to install the trans first and then set the motor in nice and easy like.. this should keep you from scratching anything.

Re: Need more expierenced advice

It's easy with out a hood. Only had the grille off because it was being straightened out.

Used the lift, and a floor jack, and my dad to wrestle it in. Wasn't much a matter of clearance, it was "Inch forward, lower, inch forward, lower" etc etc. Hardest part was getting the tranny to point up and get on the cross member. Floor jack in our situation was hard, so my dad basically bench pressed the tail shaft onto the cross member is I worked the lift.

It can be done. Was maybe a 30 minute job getting it in. Honestly, aligning the motor mount bolts was more difficult.
