What performance street tire do you prefer?
It's about time to give Old Yeller some new rubber and my plan has been for a new set of Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's. But before I plunked down my hard earned bucks, I thought I'd get a little feed back from the performance crowd. BF Goodrich T/A's have always had a good reputation although the last time I researched tire opinions the Indy 500's seamed to be as popular if not more so.
My main concern is straight line acceleration and grip. I live in West Texas where cornering is nearly non-existent so lateral grip isn't much of a factor in my decision. Obviously, drag radials would be the best from a performance standpoint but, based on cost and durability, that's not economically feasible. Unless convinced otherwise, I'll be re-installing 255/70R15's. So, what are your thoughts on Indy 500's or something else?

Re: What performance street tire do you prefer?
this might sound stupid but i'm running maxxis mudder buckshot tires on my truck and they're stickier than you think, my 3.08 rear won't spin 'em (i know, a 3.08???) they're stickier than street tires for sure my 3.08 will spin my street tires good
they are my sleeper slicks

Re: What performance street tire do you prefer?
how tall are your mudders? I think you are not getting the power to the ground. The 3.08 and taller tire are what makes it hook. try a 4.10 or 3.73 and see how bad it spins.

Re: What performance street tire do you prefer?
I have BFG Radial T/A's in 275/60/15 one of my friends bought some Firestone Indy 500's 275/60/15. With the trucks side by side and noticed a huge difference. The Firestones were very narrow compared to the BFG's. The treadwidth that was supposed to be there, wasn't there.

Re: What performance street tire do you prefer?
you will probably need a sticky tire when you get the gear.
