Brake line ?

I'm at the point were I have to run new brake lines. The master cylinder is out of a 76 3/4 ton. The prop valve is a 71. The question is what size are the lines? There is 2 different sizes. From what I read, The larger one is for the front disc (also from a 71). The smaller is for the rear drums. Is that correct? I ordered new brake hoses for the front. I haven't picked them up yet. But, will they work on the lines that are on the truck now? It's a 63. I'm trying to get everything together to do this Monday.

Next I need to get a steering column. I could get the one out of the donner 76. Just don't wanna try wiring up the ignition. Tried finding a van tilt. There harder to find than I thought.

I installed the rez adapter, power steering pump, and gear box last week. The front disc the week before that. One step at a time.

Re: Brake line ?

I just re-did some lines that were the larger size, installed by the PO. Turns out the line and fittings are large, but the 3/16ths line fit correctly. If you havent disassembled it yet, do it and take a look. I did not mess with the stuff between the ms/cylinder and the prop valve.

I was suuprised when I took apart the lines and found just the fittings were different. Something to check, anyway.

Re: Brake line ?

Thanks Protrash! And no I have not taking anything apart yet. My truck is at my inlaws house for now. Until it dryes up enough for me to build my shop. So when I get time to work on it I like to have all my stuff together. They live about 30 miles from me. Thanks again. Dustin

Re: Brake line ?

My 'burb has a stock-type prop valve, and I can tell you the the lines going OUT are definitely 3/16ths. That one line is maybe 1/4".....I had to adapt up on my pick-up at the ms/cyl from 3/16ths. Im taking a guess, by the way.

Re: Brake line ?

The 3/16 lines should be for the front brakes one to each side. The one 1/4" line goes to the rear and splits at the end of the hose to the diff to go to both sides at the rear. I have a '71 frame at the shop that I can get pics of the prop valve if it will help.

Re: Brake line ?

Thanks Guys for the replies. I wasn't able to work on the brake lines like I wanted. My youngest daughter has to have surgery Friday 6. So I had to take her for blood work and pre op check. But thanks for the help. I will let you know how it turns out. Dustin
