Undercoating opinions needed

Hey everyone, Im looking for input on PR-15 (?) undercoating. Im thinking about using it on my frame/differencials/leaf springs. Has anyone ever used it or seen it in person? Im thinking this or powder coat. Powder coating costs a little more than I want to spend though. Im interested to see what everyone else has used. My goal with this truck is for it to become a daily driver. Its already in pieces and ready to go, all I need is a decision. Please help...

heres what i used.. i just used normal rubberized undercoating.. first pic is a before shot



here is a rust convertor primer that goes on surface rust clear and the reaction turns it to black primer







then i used high temp paint from autozone to do exhaust

I've read lots of threads where guys have used POR-15 and seemed to like it...........just wear gloves! Powder coating would be nice but boy is it expensive. Oh well at least I have a job for a few more weeks at least.

IMO don't do something to get you by when you really wanna do something else you will just regret it. I had all my suspension and swb frame plus rear differential liquid powder coated and it looks great for under a 1000.00 and that's them blasting clean and all.now i don't now for sure but ill bet by the time you spend the money using por-15 (doing it correctly) it will cost you 2/3 of that with prepping and all. Now this is just my opinion and something to think about. But, daily driver now......... but one day you get wild hair up your a$$ and realize its time to make that show truck you always wanted man im glad i spent extra couple hundred and had that frame coated cause all you should have to do is power wash and BAM!! your frame is already done.Hope this was some help if not what the hell its 1 am and im bored as hell lol.

Try looking up a company called "The Eastwood", they make great undercoating products from the rubberized undercoating like the factory used to a product like POR-15. There product like POR-15 the last time I bought it was considerably less expensive then POR-15, easy to use and can be either sprayed or brushed on. On my 71 SS Camaro I used the stuff like POR 15 about 5 years ago and it still looks like new.

eastwood company makes nothing they're a catalogue and just sell rebranded products// chances are you can buy the same products at your local autopaint store cheaper with no shipping charges

I'm not a fan of por 15 because they recommend you to apply it over rust. It seems like a band-aid to me. I know alot of people use it though. After all my parts were blasted I used a catalyzed enamel and spray on bed-liner under the cab. If you powder coat the whole thing make sure you are done with any cutting or grinding on it. With regular auto paint or spray on bed-liner you can easily repaint any areas you have to rework. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have used a product called PM Industries to do my frame, control arms, etc. It is high build, self leveling, and dries hard as a rock. You brush it on and the brush marks totally disapear. If you take your time and dont let it run, it looks just like powdercoat. My buddy had his parts powder coated and he or I cant tell the difference. Dries to a high gloss too. I hit my control arm with a hammer to see how well the stuff held up and it didn't touch it. I got mine through my local Car Quest paint store for ~$40.00. I have also used Por-15 and the PM Industries is 1000 times better in my opinion. Hope this helps.

I can't say that is not true, but they are less expensive then anyone local to me even with shipping. The stuff I used there Chassis and suspension restoration kit is very tough and durable in my experiences using it.

Also check out "Rust Bullet" only draw back is it only comes in a silver grey, they say they are a rust inhibitor company, not a paint company. It can be painted over and is cheaper that por-15. I am also in the process of finding the best coating for the chasis that I can do myself.

POR 15 all the way on the chassis, POR 20 on the exhaust manifolds. Used it on my daily drivers. Very very cost effective. You won't spend anywhere near the cost of getting it powdercoated. One can (around $20) is more than enough to do an entire chassis.

i used chassis saver, it looks like black glass when its done. i cant tell you how it will hold up on the frame but the spot i spilled on my garage floor is kickin my a$$ . its been there for a year now and theres no sign of it coming off

i used a wire wheel, sander, primer. and undercoating.. on the flat parts then i went to harbor freight and bought a cheap hand held speed sand blaster for 20 bucks to get on the inside of frame... then i just uysed wax and grease remover to clean it to prep to spray undercoating on.. and it was all done... honestly i only used about $150 on what u see in the pics
