Project Knucklebuster on Gears

They had another show on Gears with Stacy David with a '73 LWB. He showed some work he did on the rear axle. I have the same set up and looking to do what he did. He has a 12 bolt rearend and he pulled the spider gears and replaces it with a Powertrax Locker from summit. There are two on there about $350 & $450. Whould this be the way to go, or should I take my rearend to the shop, or just buy a whole differential. I plan to have a 420 hp stroker and want some sort of posi. your thoughts?

+1 on this one. Trutrac is the BEST LSD out there. I've got one waiting to go in one of my Jeeps. The performance (at least offroad) is close to a true locker and the truetrac is much nicer behaved on the street.

the powertrax locker is a cheap way around buying a Detroit locker or equivalent, as to their performance, i cant speak from experience but i hear they work pretty decent

The advantage of the Powertrax unit is exactly what he said/showed. You can do it with the housing in the truck and you don't have to get into the ring and pinion assembly at all. There is no additional cost other than gear lube and a gasket.
When you go to a complete stand alone unit, whether it is a clutch type, gear type, or full size locker, you have the additional cost of time and effort of changing the whole thing and resetting the gear backlash.

i bought a powertrax for my truck and once i recieved it i sent it right back to summit. Its a really cheap way around buying a diff. specially if your already 350 bucks in the ole you might as well spend the extra 50 bucks and buy the differential. And the plus about not having the remove anything from the rear doesnt help much cause im pretty sure that if your putting a locker im pretty sure your changing the gears too so a complete tear down will have to get done anyways.

P.S. that knuckle buster truck is bad a$$ but i really dont think he is on a budget like the rest of us.

I got a chance to spend the day with stacey david.The day i went to his shop they were doing the interior. The truck is bada$$. The truck is not a long bed!

They have not really said it is going to be a series like they normally do, but this was week 2 of the build and looks like there will be more. I have my DVR set up for all the truck and car shows on the weekend, including the race on sunday, my wife loves the weekends.

I used to, but my wife normally is home with our daughter and she has both DVR's booked up. I only get to watch basketball.
