Anyone use the 88-98 spare tire system on 73-87 truck?
I was looking at the difference in the spare carrier on our 95 GMC and our 83 GMC. The 95 system seems to be a much better system. Anyone swap a later style spare carrier with the cable onto a older (73-87) truck?

I have never done it, but that's a good idea. The 73-87 system was a piece of crap. The 88-98 was a huge improvement.

while the 88+ design was a huge improvement, its a crappy design. of the 8 trucks i've owned that had it, 6 of them either broke the cable, or wouldnt retract.
